I don't really see as an issue the lie that entertainment isn't "interesting". Feeling thus is usually just a result of tiktok or pornography addiction. That being said, I used to be super addicted to porn at 14 and still whiz through anime. Not having 8 hours a day of things to do in your free time is a you problem, not an anime problem. Raise your intelligence quotient or kill yourself.

I love how the cutoff for "good anime" keeps progressing to a different year everytime we do this thread. In five years you'll have people saying 2025 is a good cutoff.
Even ignoring that though, 2015 and 2019 weren't exactly good fucking years. 2019 had that one big season with a lot of notable anime, but most of them were Jumpshit like Promised Neverland and Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Spring 2025 was also one of the best seasons since at least 2007 (the year, not a specific season), what with Shaft, Cygames, the new Yaiba, probably one of the best Precure anime in a long while started in Spring, Witch Watch, the new Anne series, so much happened in Spring.

That's an innately flawed idea only held up by those who desire to perceive themselves as experts in a given field despite lacking any real experience in it.
The idea that a medium spanning over 60 years only has "100 good works" is asinine in and of itself, and I am certainly willing to bet you've only seen the basic Toonami nostalgialard stuff.
You don't know Dezaki, you know about Tomino but probably haven't watched most of his stuff, you don't know non-Ghibli Miyazaki, you don't know Furuhashi, probably haven't seen more than four Gainax anime, no Nagahama, no WMT, etc.
You're a poser at best, with your posts in this thread displaying a complete lack of real knowledge or intricate thought.

Competency crisis. Itโ€™s not just a Western world issue, itโ€™s everywhere. All of the talented writers, directors and animators no longer exist. Flashing lights, cheap CGI and slow-mo shots is now peak animation. Frieren is considered peak storytelling. Itโ€™s genuinely over, civilization is cooked, weโ€™re just in the downhill glide path currently.

Again with this Dunning Kruger shit, I'd say Gainax had a really good output for itself compared to a lot of other studios.
At worst, most of its anime are just kind of fun, and at best they're landmarks in the medium. Gunbuster, Diebuster, Nadia, Evangelion, KareKano, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, KO Seikei Beasts, Mahoromatic, all of these are good, sometimes even great anime.
Hell, between Shaft and Gainax alone you could probably come up with at least 40 pretty great anime, somehow just two studios make up almost half of all the good anime. No Urusei Yatsura there, both Joe anime, Versailles, J9, Robot Romance, Ninpuu Kamui Gaiden, Sasuke, any of the Gegege no Kitaro anime, any Matsumoto anime especially, Kaiji and Akagi, there's so much great anime but people who have only seen a MINIMAL amount of anime love to chime in how they know more than you, and they know that actually, ALL anime is bad except specifically the stuff I watched (which all happens to be dubbed into English and aired on American television).

I think 2014 was the beginning of the end. I remember watching snk premiere on toonami that year and seeing wall to wall merch for it the very next week at every vaguely nerdy shopping outlet. To me, that was the start of anime as a truly international product. After that, there became fewer and fewer series that were content with being mainly directed at japanese audiences and I think that lead to more homogenization and series being sanitized for overseas audiences. Sword art online was a big part of that shift too, with the start of the wish fulfillment isekai that take up half the industry, culminating last yeat with solo leveling being such a hit.

With every passing season it becomes easier and easier to have cleared 1000 titles and have nothing to show for it
Until someone compiles The List and it provably has a thousand titles on it, I'm inclined to think less of the opinions of anyone who has their mil since they have an obvious quantity over quality mindset and emphatically will not be able to tell you anything useful about their bottom 800
That list will never be made either since it would break the illusion and confirm that otaku have terrible terrible taste

Again, more dunning-kruger shit.
Anime had already become an "international product" with Bleach, One Piece Naruto. The "Big Three" as an idea literally refers to those three works getting international, particularly western, popularity at the same time, to the point where Naruto had been the highest selling manga in the world despite One Piece beating it in Japan.
>there became fewer and fewer series that were content with being mainly directed at japanese audiences
Maybe if you actually watched anime you'd realize this idea is dumb and retarded. Most things are made with the Japanese market in mind, and the few that aren't make it blatantly clear they're pursuing a global market share.
>Sword art online was a big part of that shift too, with the start of the wish fulfillment isekai that take up half the industry, culminating last yeat with solo leveling being such a hit.
Again, dunning-kruger newfag shit.
SAO was hardly the start of a shift considering it existed in the middle of it (and wasn't even an isekai). Zero no Tsukaima not only PREDATED SAO, not only had FOUR SEASONS AND ENDED before SAO even started (literally two seasons before SAO, Zero had its final season), but also experienced similar popularity worldwide.
Hell, the same season SAO aired there was a DECONSTRUCTIVE isekai work about what happens to heroes AFTER their isekai journey ends.

Ignoring ALL of that though, wish fulfillment shit is nothing new. Negima was popular. To-Love Ru was popular. Battle harems were a big genre. We just moved from battle harems to fantasy harems, that's the whole shift.

Threads are usually kids getting old.
I do think objectively you can cut anime during all of /a/'s existence into several eras where predominant industry trends are different. Then it's up to someone weather they liked those changes or not.
Just for an example all those old disc sales threads /a/ used to have are predicated on a way of doing business that simply doesn't exist anymore. That happened during /a/'s lifetime.
>>280788185
I do think 2014 is more right for a transition than people who try to project 2016 somehow onto Japan. But it's not for international reasons. When you try to breakdown "overseas" revenue in anime you start to see a lot of it is licensing, and then what are the big licensed shows for things like backpacks/toys/whatever? Well it tends to be by /a/ standards old shit like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, Dragonball, Naruto. Think the sort of mass market stuff that never goes out of print.
This is to a degree less true in 2025 but it's still mostly how it is. In 2014 all that AOT stuff you were seeing was definitely not much in the minds of the people making a business out of anime and so it wasn't really what was making anime shift gears.

I still find an anime I genuinely enjoy every once in a while. But yes, Itโ€™s becoming increasingly more difficult and a lot of ones I watch now I will drop whereas I know a few years ago I would have watched it and enjoyed it.
On a different topic, are mal ratings just completely retarded?
Sometimes I will strongly enjoy a sub 7 show and then an 8+ is a slog.

My problem with current anime is that it is too feminine and gay. The animation on average is better now, but it has no impact at all because the animators and directors are too busy making everything look pretty and colorful as possible instead of making something meaningful. No one tries to do cool or raw stuff anymore, everything feels like it's made by and for women.

I remember one time saying something like 'probably around 1% of anime is 'good'...', and got accused of being someone who 'doesn't like anime', despite having spent some five-figure hour amount of my life degenerately consuming it kek.
I don't know what the total number of anime is, but if it's over 10k then the 1% figure sounded reasonable to me at the time.
Of course it's going to mostly come down to how you define 'good'. But there is obviously a lot of crap that has been produced over the years no matter how you look at it.

I wouldn't say anime is boring but I would say anime has taken an objective decline in quality overall, I started watching anime in 98 and I I would say I started to notice this decline around 2013 but it wasn't too bad. 2020 and beyond is very bad though. I can name 5 anime in this past decade (vie watched virtually every half decent seasonal this decade as well) that are at least pretty good and we are already 5 years in to the decade. 2010's had way more quality shows and so did the 2000's.

switch to manga for a couple of years, then light novels/web novels for another couple of years, then vidya for a couple of years after that

Sounds like you're at the halfway point in story telling consumption. You see patterns and story beats for what they are but then you'll find out why those are good or bad and enjoy the ones that are good.

No anime was censored from source when Abe was PM.
Hope this senate vote has stopped LDP and ishiba's censorship.. by Ishiba being impeached.
Judgement to LDP for censoring anime by banning bikinis for JK charas, embezzling rice!!
seems that JKs in bikinis are extinct from anime in 2025 Spring and summer season.

Can someone confirm if to me if the anime changed things? I remember the Manga having a good balance between comedy and tragedy back when I read and ended up liking it a lot.
But when I watched the first episode of the Anime it felt like pure tragedy with some unfunny lulzrandom scenes and couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.
Did they change it? Is it the subs? Or was the Manga always that bad and for whatever reason found it funny back then?

>Feeling thus is usually just a result of tiktok or pornography addiction.
>I used to be super addicted to porn
You are the epitome of someone who overcame a hard time and now makes others who are in similar situations feel bad. It's because you're insecure. You hate the part of you that was addicted to pornography. Deep down, you're afraid you might go back to that addiction hence why to feel better about yourself, you criticize people who are similar to your past self.

The studio doesn't do second seasons often, have you tried the manga? The anime isn't that good of an adaptation but I would still like it to adapt the rest of the manga, I like both but the manga is definitely better. The new entry called Volundio is also great so far although not as good.

Official translations for both anime and manga tend to be worse than fan tls most of the time, what are you on about? Only Dark Horse from what I've seen has had consistently good translations.
Either way Helck has an official translation, but sadly it was done by Viz. Better than nothing I guess.

If you ever want to read manga I recommend dark horse, so far I haven't had any issue with their translations. But admittedly I haven't read that many of theirs to know if they're consistent or not, only Mieruko, Murciรฉlago, Wandering Island, Kekkai Sensen and Colorless I've read so far
