Most of the manga I got on my list either hasn't been updated in a while or is updating at snail pace, so I've been binge reading Rin-ne and Mao by Rumiko Takahashi. A rather stupid move from me, cause it became obvious very quickly that this is stuff to be read one chapter per week, but I really had nothing better to do.

Rin-ne is gag comedy, so there is actually not that much in terms of plot and it's easy to go through it quickly, but that's exactly why I shouldn't have rushed it, because jokes got repetitive.
As far as big chapter count goes, it's not that bad if its interesting, not so long ago I've re-read Detective Conan to remind myself of old plot points. Old cases back in the day were so much better.

I've not read any completed series this past week, but other than all the single chapter updates, I started up magilumiere and sakamoto days
>sakamoto days
not much to say, I'm only on chapter 16. it's fairly fun and enjoyable, but I don't see myself getting heavily invested in it. unless something hooks me, this'll be one where I just casually read a few chapters here and there. the tunnel effect looms heavily over the horizon though
>magilumiere
I'm up to chapter 88, and I'll probably finish it in 2-3 days. I'm pretty sure magical girl purists would hate this, but I've been enjoying it quite a bit. at least part 1, I'm not entirely sold on the changes after the timeskip. it's basically high tech ghostbusters with a magical girl coat of paint. the computer programs that act as the magic are a very big focus. koshigaya is simply the best

I'm currently reading Persona 2 Tsumi to Batsu, I like how they implemented the game mechanics into the manga and the cast is fun, but the story isn't wowing me yet, I find it weird that so far they haven't implemented the rumor setting which was the most interesting thing about the game duology's plot.

Out of all Ojiroโ€™s works, itโ€™s definitely the one thatโ€™s the most unrefined. Itโ€™s not absolutely horrendous or anything aside from certain parts and near the end. >coming-of-age
I always hated this pretentious term and the way the Japanese love to write stories about people growing up and accepting societal norms. Just say 'growing up'. And stop being such a bunch of collectivist insects. How many manga are there about a boy 'coming of age' by giving up 'childish things' to do the right thing and study, go to higher education and get an office job in the city and become what they call a member of society.

>Have you considered checking out all the series with 100+ volumes?
I've read a few of those but I don't think the remaining ones would interest me. It's a short list overall and many of those series appeal to niches I don't typically take interest
I don't necessarily look for super long series either, if I find a manga with 60+ chapters that's finished or 200+ that's ongoing I got enough to keep myself immersed for a while

Pick a magazine that matches your interests.
Look up other works from an author you like.
There's nothing wrong with checking out classics either.
Stores will recommend similar works based on your and others buying habits.

I sometimes get sloppy with the gatekeeping and namedrop a series I assume everybody is already familiar with get get surprised when some treat it as a big discovery.

Out of the top of my head I found Red Eyes, Sumire 16, Wakusei Closet, Tsuyoshi, Soara to Mamono no Ie, Historie, Tank Chair, Kami Katsu, Choujin X and Freesia through /a/, granted a lot of these are really popular now and I do experiment by reading whatever seems interesting or checking Japanese awards which was how I found out about Ryuu to Chameleon, Shadows House and Laika no Hoshi.

If you're talking about Tsugimanga, it's series with up to 5 volumes so most of the nominees are older titles. It's rare to see titles from the past year make it.
Almost all of the titles come from the big magazines so you may simply check out the new serializations for those if you just want new series and don't care about obscurity.

Been reading the Grimm Fairy Tales series by Daijirou Morohashi (best known for Shiori and Shimiko).
It's a short story series retelling Grimm's stories, but there's always some kind of twist. Snow White, the pale skinned, red lipped girl roused from her coffin being a vampire, for example.

Also read through all of the works of Sachiko Uguisu. I like Mieruko-chan, but the attention that manga got compared to, say, Shibito no Koe wo Kiku ga Yoi is criminal. As a man who primaily reads horror manga, I honestly prefer her works to those of Junji Ito.

here's what I'm currently reading. for years, the only ongoing series I'd read were romcom trash since an infrequent schedule is rarely an issue there. but a lot of those ended in the last couple years and I hadn't replaced them, so I decided to give drama queen a shot since it looked interesting. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and then the mangadex purge happened. so I checked out more mangaplus series, and now here I am mostly reading stuff from mangaplus. might as well since I'm here

>takizawa-san, uzaki-chan, yancha gal, no gyaru in this class
all just fine romcom trash, good representation of what I used to mainly read

>drama queen

>god of time, land of monsters, nito exorcists, blue proustian moment, home at the horizon, ghost fixers
all just fine but nothing amazing. I like blue proustian (slow burn yuri with some poverty drama) and home at the horizon (dead dad's bastard son shows up, chill drama) the most
>war of the adults
pretty dumb, most likely to be dropped
>kaedegami
solid foundation, but too early to really tell
>centuria
pretty great. started off fantastic with amazing monster designs and an interesting mystery surrounding the eldritch gods, but it's recently erred on the side of generic battle shounen. I still have faith though
>dandadan
started off great, but has really faltered over time. the characters and their relationships, along with the interesting paranormal oddities were what interested me, and they've both taken a backseat to just mindless fighting and endless roadblocks. I have less hope for this getting back on track
