When have you ever seen the director of a series with such a high level of production make multiple statements trying to placate backlash while only 5 episodes in? Yes, I know it's primarily directed at China but I think we can extend it a bit.

I liked the show, so I came here to talk about it, only to find the constant bitching and moaning and whining and crying about how "the donghua didn't do this! The donghua didn't do that!" There is the occasional fun post but holy fuck this is fucking miserable. I've read the first volume, so I kinda get it, but I also don't... at all. A bit of criticism here and there, sure, but this is ridiculous.

I have personal reasons for sticking around this long, but can you imagine what it's like for excited donghua fans, looking to talk about this new thing that they like, only to find this? It's no wonder the series isn't as popular as you fags want it to be (which it is still really popular for a Chinese production). You're constantly talking shit about it!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the worst part of the donghua is the complaining novel fans. You fags are successfully gatekeeping the series.

I've said this from the very beginning since Episode 2, but the DongHua does a very good job of the "Show, not tell" aspect. They leave many subtle clues and hints instead of outright pointing them out.

The client who commissioned the Nighthawks to find the missing Elliot and the faint sound of scribbling whenever the feather appears are some examples that come to mind.

In episode 5, even without knowing anything about the Demoness Sect, you can tell with certainty that the woman who bumped into Klein is Tris because she is holding her arm the same way he did, due to the gunshot wound he obtained at Tingen Underground Market while being pursued.

For me episode 5 was absolute PEAK?

Legit everything was perfect, the detective work was cool, the fight was amazing and we got the best background art I've ever set my eyes on legit at every second of the show.

The underground market did NOT look this good in the book.

The pacing was good and the plot for this episode should be comprehensible to anyone who's actually watching the show. There was nothing confusing in this episode and it really feels good after seeing some donghua onlies being left hella bamboozled after the first 4 eps.

This woman is a 10/10.

I love how the flashy animation is working to get me into the series but everytime I come near a Lotm thread there’s a good handful of fags who apparently don’t think people like me exist or side swipe us with insults for liking the show. It’s hard to get into a show when it fans is canabilising itself trying to get rid of any new fans just because they don’t meet an avid Rick and Morty enjoyer level of intelligence. People who want this show to be much slower paced but also keep its viewership numbers high enough to warrant multiple seasons don’t understand that the people making this show want as many people to watch it as possible, not as few as possible. I’d understand the anger if the show was already canceled and the flashy scenes didn’t seem to be bringing anybody new in or not guaranteeing a future for the series. But as far as I looked up season 2 is confirmed which means the flashy scenes are working and it is giving the series a future. You’re mad about sitting on a bus with a crayon eating window licker but if they weren’t there then the seat would be empty. And if the seats are empty there’s no point for the anime/bus in general. Animation isn’t cheap and I think having a few crayon eaters in the audience to pay the bills doesn’t hurt as much as your making it out to be

Same situation as the lord of the rings movies, without going any further, the fellowship of the ring omitted half of the first book (and something more), completely changed the personalities of the characters and took away the prominence of some, even though they won 4 oscars, there are fans who read the books and think it's crap (and this applies to the two towers and The return of the king too)... anyway, it's impossible to please everyone.

I am someone interacting with this story through the Donghua first, with no prior knowledge of the webnovel or manhua. From my point of view, it is undeniably very fast paced, but not impossibly so. All of the information that you need IS there. I think the problem is the speed of the show absolutely requires 100% of your attention 100% of the time. Long gone are the days of 90's media where you could just leave the room take a piss, get a beer, smoke a cigarette and return without losing the plot.

The folks expecting and demanding a 1:1 adaptation, regardless of the story in question, need a reality check. They are entirely different art mediums, each with their pros and cons. What works for one will not necessarily work for the other. I am glad the author and the rest of the team recognize this and are comfortable in adapting the story to screen. I am hooked and will probably pick up the web novel after this first season concludes.

I read up to chapter 260, it really is “trust the plan”, end of volume 1 pretty much explains a lot of the questions I had, while keeping many things still a secret for the time being.
