It's crazy how people here think that the idea of secret teams defending the earth was a new idea introduced in 1995 when it's the most standard tokusatsu outline that has ever existed. You don't even need to know a million ancient shows, it's just so standard, even in other realms. Probably because tokusatsu, magic girl, and superhero fiction are all variations on the same genre, but that's another story.

Not as much as people like to claim. It's pretty much just some broad strokes vibes from Be Invoked. The Invocation of the Ide seems similar to the Third Impact on a surface level, but they are thematically very different. Spoilers for Ideon: Ideon and the Ide are very obvious metaphors for nuclear weapons. From the moment Ideon is awakened, it starts an inevitable path towards humanity's and the Buff Clan's mutual destruction. You can't put the cat back in the bag. Only through total extinction of all life in the universe and the destruction of Ideon are they purified and given another chance to live peacefully. Like I said, this doesn't resemble the Third Impact outside of "life is annihilated and given a second chance." They're telling very different stories. Anyone claiming that NGE ripped off Ideon is just revealing himself as never having watched Ideon.

It was very much a point that Buffclan could have ended the war at any time but their culture was that it would be better to lose the war and be wiped out than to do even a single thing to deescelate the conflict

You're not seeing the bigger picture. Humanity discovered a weapon that literally has infinite power. If they weren't using it on the Buff Clan, they would have used it on themselves. They were never going to be able to resist using the "win every battle weapon" no matter the cost.
