Came in this thread to post this: >>280868357

Versus is great. I'm completely enthralled by the setting's premise of "about a dozen world's apocalypses have all merged and overlapped with one another and they're all the worst thing ever." It's great and it's good to see ONE writing something.

Tower Dungeon is also pretty good. I'm only a 'recent' casual fan of Tsutomu Nihei (I liked Kaina, but didn't finish it. Knights of Sidonia was also good, but it felt unfinished), so take my opinion with some salt when I say I like his more casual visual style and tone in Tower Dungeon way more than his other works.

Primal Gods In Ancient Times is probably my 2nd favorite right now, but the update/translation schedule confuses me. I love the setting, enjoy the character designs (particularly the kami), am eager to see more of the world, plot, and I actually like every single character. This is also one of the few mangas where the time traveling elements are actually good and not disruptive or shit.

Bi-monthly schedule (one chapter every two months) but the translator only does the volumes. He'll upload them every Thursdays once vol 8 is out on August 12th, we call it "Touge Thursdays".

I remember there being a lot of .5 or twitter or something chapters during the fantranslation that were pretty important. When the official localization started these stopped getting translated. As a matter of fact, yes. It was kind of dumb but made up with some kino torture and rape scenes, even despite some being censored. I semi dropped it after his Grandad was killed. The author has no fucking idea what he wants to do with the manga and the moment Shin left the cult island the manga jumped the shark so fucking hard.

Another good one is Kimi ni Aisarete Itakatta. Although that manga also takes a nosedive in quality after the author returns from hiatus. I think torture manga is cursed, it always starts off good but they never know where to go with it.

bugle call is probably the second closest manga you will ever find to world trigger, the other being kekkaishi(which is eeriely similar to the point where I feel like world trigger was inspired by it)
however bugle call has more technological or sci fi elements similar to world trigger, vs kekkaishi where they use special abilities like ketsu based on japanese religion.

I also found this super obscure series that isn't really being translated, but I did find the first 3 volumes on random sites some how.

its called "thunder 3" and it looks like its a literal copy of GANTZ but its actually by a different author and it has one of the more interesting concepts i've seen in a manga.

its literally 3 kids from another manga art, looking like astroboy, flying out to a photorealistic style manga world, and apparently they just traveled into a different dimension and become basically like superman under a yellow sun, oh and also they somehow have a bunch of randos fighting off an alien invasion, almost exactly like gantz in terms of its storytelling, but not the same author

The one by Tanabe Yellow? I'm following her new manga so I've been thinking to give it a shot but the opinions seem to be really mixed (but I guess that's also the case for WT lel)

Much better. JoJolands starts pretty weak with some nostalgiawank by having Rohan appear randomly and not focusing that much on the cast aside from the JoJo of this part. But from chapter 9 onward I'd argue the manga has been non-stop amazing.

This is everything I am reading currently. Some gets released like once a year, but they are all fun. Sometimes a manga is GOOD in which I'll add it to like a top rated list, but I like manga that are FUN to read, which is why I have some shonen jump titles in there, they are fun to read, but are not particularly good in terms of story depth or other reasons. Then there are some ecchi titles like Elf-san and Tsugumomo that are just raunchy reads.

yellow tanabe's works is alot like Hiromu Arakawa. especially the dialogue,
however in terms of the combat and fights, as well as the scenes and world building world trigger and kekkaishi share alot of similarities.

also both series are very brave for having a weak protagonist in an era where their respective magazines were filled with powerhouses. Both series also put an extreme amount of screen time on side characters, and there is no point where the protagonists overshadows or "powercreeps" the rest of the organization.

both series are literally tower of defense defending a location from an alien threat, although in kekkaishi's case its a mythological threat, both series has alot of politics involved as well, both involve an organization designed with very similar departments and groups the protagonists having to form a team and grow their own group etc.
I can go on, but the similarities are very strong that I can go for an essay on them.
