Watched it while it was airing a loved it. Read the manga and was very disappointed by the last third or so of it.
I'd say it's one of those rare anime > manga recommendations. Not just because the manga shits the bed but because the anime voice acting is top notch.

Saw the anime. Started it blind, having heard it's funny and seen the opening. Had a chill slice of life timeslot in my daily routine back then which seemed to fit based on little info I had. Turns out it has negative chill. It has 0 kelvin chill even. Didn't like it as much because of that but it indeed had some funny moments.

Yes, and it is not something I would normally say, but if someone genuinely says to you that the latter part of the manga is good, you can safely disregard that person's opinion on media. It's not even that it stops being a comedy; it's that it tries to be something else (drama with yuri undertones) and fails miserably at it.

I say the three-parter that starts with chapter 96 signals the start of the changes because it’s the one that properly introduces pic related, who is the character the rest of the series starts to revolve around. There are some chapters after this point that still maintain some of the classic DNA of the series, but they are really few and far between, and by the end, there’s none of that. The series is all about this girl and her obsession with another character, which amounts to really bad drama.

The series already ended, and the author started a new manga, Outsider Paradise, that focus on this one character that maintains the tone of the latter volumes. But from what I understand, it is on hiatus.

Pic related is basically a different character by the end of the series. And the main three also have their personalities toned down significantly to accommodate the more serious tone the series adopts later on.
