Isn't this sort of animation crazy expensive? Where did they get the budget? Kirara was barely animated and Pretty Journey wasn't too big of an eye candy for the most part.

My Melo was an original character at first, in the seventies. Kuromi came from the 2005 anime series. That's why I get the feeling Sanrio doesn't like Kuromi much. She isn't their OC and there are probably some royalties involved. That's why they were so slow to capitalize on Kuromi popularity boom in recent years. And even now she is playing the second fiddle to My Melo in the new anime.

Kuromi actually surpassed Hello Kitty in popularity, she only follows the ever-popular Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll. Women love her for being an outwardly edgy girlfailure character who stands out among cutesy Sanrio mascots.
