Season 1 was kino, Ayumu and Yuu were practically girlfriends. There was focus, it felt cohesive, the music was great. I'm on ep 12 of season 2 right now and it's kind of a mess. Lanju was an annoying bitch and then suddenly she isn't and her plot is dropped, meanwhile no one gets any screen time because there are 40 fucking characters and then miya is just like "WOW THAT'S AWESOME すごい." Animation and songs are great but the writing for this is unironic garbage.

I just wanted to see yuu and aymu kiss. Kanata and kasumi are cute together as well. Season 1 was unbelievably yuri and then they just dropped that shit completely.

Kasumi is the real character that we should feel sorry for. She's extremely broken household coded, nobody acts as insecure and class clownish as she does if they don't have serious issues at home. But of course she's just the butt of everyone's joke, and Lanzhu literally gets everyone laughing at her publicly multiple times. Lanzhu's just kind of a shit person.

S2 sucks because they were adapting the actual shitshow of Lanzhu's intro arc from the mobile game. Even the nips hated the original arc because she was using her nepotism to try to one up the girls and started poaching the Niji girls in a way that made any girl who "went to her side" a traitorous bitch. They had to sanitize her character but didn't know how so we ended up with the snoozefest + character bloat that was S2.

It's obvious that even if all the girls go their separate ways Yu and Ayumu won't. Yu will propery study music production and once everyone's graduated she'll become Ayumu's proper producer. It's the other characters you should be worried about since most if not all will "retire" and become normal wagies like 99% of the Love Live girls once they graduate since aspiring to be a normal idol is apparently too unrealistic for a franchise where school idols can make and produce their own music and music videos.

Lanzhu questioned the point of making an idol club where everyone was a solo idol and even competed with each other. The club members then formed into groups in order to respond to that. These groups were meant as some kind of experiment, but in the process they found the true purpose of the club, that is to support each other. Their new connections also made them stronger both individually and collectively. Lanzhu, in turn, realized how cringe and pathetic she was. Just because they competed with each other doesn't mean they had to stand alone and not help each other. The things she wanted the most was there in the club, but she almost rejected it. The other characters then befriended her, also with the help of her two friends Shioriko and Mia. There's also the role of Yuu as the main character.

IIRC they were supposed to compete in Love Live, but then in the movie sequel they went back to competing with each other. Maybe I remember wrong and it was only R3BIRTH who wanted to be in Love Live.
