After this week's chapter folks are complaining about nepotism being a major factor in the story, it most certainly helps, but it isn't everything.

Hiyori isn't shit wholesale, and Momo has no training with the adult body. Also their grandfather was was good craftsman, but didn't have much battle prowess nor did he educate anyone on the craft.

None of Big Mom's kids are really that out there aside from maybe Katakuri and Cracker.

His parents were normal doctors, he climbed up on his own, and fell because he didn't have man power.

Luffy is not important because he is Garp's grandson. Garp is important because Luffy is the main character. Garp would not exist if the character of Luffy didn't exist, Garp's narrative importance entirely derives from him being Luffy's grampa.

Blackbeard and Whitebeards final conversation feels now a bit dull since we now know wb was on bb's fathers ship. And rocks seems to have been such a world changing character. Who cares about a man roger was waiting for? It's all about rocks now

The problem is that ODA doesn't want to make his story more complicated than it is. And one thing he has to do as a writer is keep things simple.

in one piece universe the theme is devil fruits are a double edged sword, brawlers and swordsman can be stronger with haki and air jump and anyone can be strong with G U T S and hard work (except girls cause yuckie)

It's not that hard to understand. The nepotism thing is here because One Piece became a story involving the whole world changing with new important events. The story became a mythology. And when your story become a mythology, most of your relevant characters become related to important characters who did great things in the past and we now see their heirs. This is why you have these storied of divine beings and powerful ancestors.

And it tend to happen on a lot of shounen. You can subvert that trope by adding the importance of free will and not just saying everything was about winning by destiny.

Of course if you wanted a story featuring self-made mens it's kinda disappointing but every shounens were like this before getting mythological.

Luffy is a big nepo baby. Sure, Garp didn't teach him about battleship haki, but he trained him as a child until his teens which carried him until the first half of the grand line.
Then here comes the biggest nepo crime, since he is Dragon's son. He got bailed out by the trannies to get out of impeldown, they were waiting until Dragon gave them the signal to do so and they thought Dragon would be in Marineford as well since Luffy kept saying Ace and him were brothers.

Then for the second half of the grand line he got vouched by red hair and Rayleigh just trained him. Law only safed Luffy because he is a D.
Had Luffy not been son of Dragon or grandchild of Garp then he would not been born in the Goa Kingdom like Dragon and would not have had the chance to meet Shanks.
And if he wasn't son of Dragon then he wouldn't be a D. and Law wouldn't pick up interest in him.
