Somehow it correlates with Takopi telling Shizuka in the first episode that the only thing they eat on the Happy planet is the Happy Fruit (in the bible Adam only ate the fruits of Eden). Takopi also took a liking to Shizuka and Marina after they fed him, so maybe there’s some kind of trigger there.
Anyway it's so ambiguous that there's not much to scratch.

Damn, what an excellent adaptation this is. The extended lead up to Marina killing her mom and the dialogue exchange between Shizuka and Azuma are all anime original.
There's also that cool background tracking shot of Takopi reaching out to Marina in the school nearing the end, really nice stuff.
Curious to see how they're gonna tackle the ending now, wonder if they'll elaborate certain scenes.

So many seem to think Takopi died when Shizuka hit him with the rock and are confused seeing him in the pipe area thinking about both sets of memories. They don't realize that he just got knocked out back when he got hit, remembered everything, then flew there to think.
