Kirakira Precure A La Review 44!

Sweet episode, though not great on its emotional side.

Summary: Akira is spacing out, remember a time where she's found herself Miku-less. Miku notices this, and then asks what Akira wants to do when she graduates. Akira wants to be be a researcher, looking for a way to heal Miku. As Akira leaves, Ellsio calls the hospital and starts grooming her. At KiraPati the girls are having fun under the Kotatsu thinking up the latest dessert; Himari wants something warm, while Aoi wants something cool to enjoy in front of the fireplace; Himari has to check her privilege. That's when attention is turned to Akira who is behaving distantly, but they don't get to dig in on it, as everyone realizes Ichika should be studying. Everyone returns home and Akira is still spacing out as she tries to study when Ichika sends her a little treat. As Ichika takes a break, Akira goes out and thanks her, only for Ichika to get a little tutoring. Ichika lets out a little appreciation, relieving Akira for a moment. But the alarms are sound and Miku is missing. The girls scramble and are all over town, but nothing as Miku is in Noir's world. Ellsio coaxes Akira to the world, and like before Mikue is used as a base for the MoTW. Akira tries to fight Ellsio, but he's too strong for Chocolat to solo, and when the other Cures appear, the MoTW swallows Chocolat. Ellsio forces Akira to examine her memories as she realizes she's been letting out her loneliness and its been affecting everyone, especially Miku. But her loneliness is her strength Chocolat cleanses the creeping darkness of Ellsio. Chocolat grabs Miku, destroying the MoTW, and the cures quickly cleans Ellsio starting the collapse of the Noir world. The Cures hightail it with Miku getting a glimpse of Akira as Chocolat, and Noir stops the world collapse, forgiving Ellsio's failure. Back in the real world Akira shares an experiment white truffle treat with Miku under a kotatsu. Next episode is Yakari.

As far as Akira is concerned. I'm a little confused by the episode. I argued with an anon yesterday over Himari's reclusiveness being constantly reiterated in every Himari episode, but it was this episode where we get the bomb that Akira is actually incredibly lonely. Even at my most charitable to the writers its still quite a strange turn. Like the Akira trial episode was a far better explanation on Akira's motivation where she just sees helplessness and she wants to help, even if it tears herself apart. This is just a head scratcher. Maybe the loneliness is just her fear that Miku wont survive her illness? With five episodes left, I doubt there will be a correction or explanation.

There are some good points, at the very least it's a reasonable review.
I'm not expecting Precure to handle everything perfectly, due to strong toy selling business constraints for example. But that Purirun amnesia subplot was certainly garbage, Meroron remains an awful 1D character (neetama neetama! Uta nekodorobou!) and the idol theme is not used to its full potential.
Those finisher attacks that start with a very short idol performance are a waste of good music. Insultingly bad was the re-use of ED1 for the group attack as they mentioned, holy mother of laziness. I appreciate ED 1 being reused for the special attack a lot more now that ED 2 is playing. It's a cool way to keep it around, and it kind of helps that the Trio Dreams special attack only overlapped with ED 1 for 6 episodes. Meroron feels like she'll antagonize the Cures until mid August at the soonest. That's about a whole cour of episodes where she's a bitch to the other Cures, moreso if you count some of the pre-amnesia arc episodes like 12 or 15. Not as controversial as Aguri, but I can't think of any other midseason that's as potentially grating. Ciel sucks, but that's just due a botched execution more than something they planned out, and Asumi had a normal enough relationship with the other Cures despite appearing out of nowhere.
