Who ever got the idea into people's minds that it had anything to do with peace and friendship? A democratic republic is build upon constant arguments between opposing parties, it's more warlike than when some body gives orders uncontested. Every piece of decision must be automatically contested. The democracy should never be tranquil, if the tension goes down then the system fails at its goal.
