Honestly, Takemitchi from Tokyo Revengers is what everybody thinks Deku is.

I just finished the series. I really hate that Shigaraki got to be the center-antagonist so much. He feels like a movie villain brought into the main series. Overhaul, Redestro, Stain, and even Gentle were all better and more entertaining than him. All For One kinda sucked too the more we saw of him.

For a series that's based on western superheroes you would think they'd copy the fact that they don't just deal with one villain and move on to the next, but instead deal with a whole arsenal.

I like Deku for one reason: he wasn’t the destined son of a special bloodline. Everyone thought Dad For One would be real, but Hori ended up avoiding that fate. Deku really was just a loser peasant nobody. Yes sure he received the most powerful Quirk in history — it’s still a shounen manga — but Hori limited it greatly by making Deku’s manlet body unable to bear OFA’s power so it wasn’t a Naruto situation. Yes Hori screwed it up later on with oh my 8 quirks, but for much of the manga Deku was limited in strength. For that Deku deserves respect for at least trying not to a bog standard battle shounen MC.

This series and vinland will go down as the 'shameful endings' of our generations of manga.

MHA is not a story about community building, moral development, and appreciating the small changes you can make in the world, it's a story about superheroes punching supervillains in the face. Every major plot arc revolves around the need to thwart a supervillain, every major character is relevant because of their superpowers or their relationship to someone with superpowers, the entire series is named for and based around an institution of superheroes. It is a simple high-stakes world where power is the barrier to agency as a character; trying to pretend otherwise would have been insane and blatantly insincere even for Hori. The ending, while bad, completely squares with the narrative logic of the series.

What are you even arguing? To be a hero, or a villain, you need to have a Quirk. If you disagree with that, you have to have at least one counter-example.

You are, like most people, confused by the shounen genre contradictions: on on the one hand, the narrative makes it clear that you have to have a Quirk to be relevant, but on the other hand shounen tropes are in play meaning that most of a character’s combat power comes from normal shounen power scaling unrelated to any Quirks. So, people like you are easily confused. The answer is that it’s just badly-written but you still have to accept the narrative canon because that’s the only canon you can go by. Quirk = can be relevant, Quirkless = cannot be relevant.
