Sure making kikoru and kafka a couple would have maximized profit by giving the manga an audience of otaku and women that love age gap, but mina makes more sense

The real issue is letting kikoru interact with other men, for starters everyone should have stayed together and kept fighting kaiju while kikoru slowly transforms into kafka’s fangirl and gets cute moments blushing and crushing on him, but season 2 just started and her attention is on a new guy it ruins everything

japan gets earthquakes and tsunamis all the time, and people still live there.
it was only when kaiju no.9 showed up and started doing shit on purpose that the other kaiju attacks become both more frequent and more dangerous and more unpredictable. prior to that dealing with kaiju was a matter of routine that rarely resulted in anyone dying, with the rare exceptions that become huge distasters showing up only one every 7 years or so

It was already pretty thin in S1, now that the novelty is gone and he's just another dude with superpowers, just slightly different ones AND the animation took the usual massive dump there isn't much of a reason to watch.
