>>281091804Thanks thou saucy fellow
Been one hell of a journey
I think it's great how 1:1 this depicted a lot of historical developments (minus the gender swapping) while still very much so being its own narrative with its own characters
>>281091780Alas! The spring winds of transience in one brief instant swept away the beauty of this lovely blossom; the billows of a heartless fate swallowed the Oooku.
Haha okay that was funny, now the real Ooku begins right? Now we go back in time somehow and all the evils are undone and our lieges get to live long happy lives right?
>>281091603He was thinking of her until his last moments. RIP to a bird that had lost the will the live outside of a cage. May he be free at last.

>>281090072Thank you for your service OP. m( _ _ )m
>>281090319just like us fr
What a disappointment. This manga had such a great setup for having feudal-era Japan yuri with no males, but instead it's full of ugly pricks
>>281092220The focus was always on the dudes
I'm just surprised it wasn't all that gay in the end
>>281092234Does anybody--other than fujoshits--actually care about males? This manga would've been so much better if it was yuri-focused instead.
>>281092273Out of the two lesbians I can remember off the top of my head, one got raped to death, and the other was a nutcase
>>281092311There needed to be more lesbians and less pricks.
>>281091226>>281091295It wouldn't have been complete without repeating the refrain of the manga one last time. The phrase is going to live in my head rent free for a while.
>>281092311I don't remember the one raped to death.

some threads ago I said I wanted to remake a recommendation list about japanese history. I just managed to finish it in time for the end, please take a look. >>281109591one day that girl will fondly remember the crazy guy who had this weird conspiracy theory...
>>281109640I love the explanation for that reason. Even granting that the Shimazu were bumpkins they were still an old and powerful daimyo clan. The burly woman in the photographs hardly evokes the feeling of a court lady, even less a shogun's consort, but if she was a hardy servant from a lowly samurai family dressed up in the robes it would make more sense. Shima in the story was picked to attend on Kazu-no-miya partly because she was mannish enough to disguise herself too...

BOW YE DOWN FOR THE EXIT OF OUR LIEGE
This manga has done much to make me regain respect for that bastard tanukiโs clan and the period his rule brought forth. Also fuck Kyo and the west in general. Stupid stuck up country bumpkins.
>>281110052thank you so much for posting this O-OP-sama, I doubt I'd ever read it by myself. what an amazing manga, I am baffled by how good everything in it was: the characters, the drama, the historical aspects. 250 years passed and it never overstayed its welcome, with each shogun I never knew what to expect. I'm going to miss not having a new chapter to read while having breakfast.

>>281110052Thank you OP. I really didn't expect to like this manga as much as I did. It was said multiple times, but the amount of different type of stories the manga managed to tell was real good. I'm glad i pushed throught my initial impression that the old english would get tiring.

>>281109027My instant headcanon the first time I read this was that the author realized how horrible that was and retconned him back to life in the volume release version. But I don't think that has any actual relationship to the truth.
>>281116100"Shit food" like millet or unpolished rice and garden vegetables saves you from beriberi. I guess she went back to Kyotochow.
Also it wasn't quite the same boat trip as the one depicted in the last chapter, but the first trip to the US on a Japanese-owned steamship had Katsu Kaishu on it and an INSANELY interesting character named Nakahama Manjiro that I was surprised never showed up near the end of Oooku. I can't believe the guy has never had a movie made about his life.

Boy I sure can't wait for tomorrow's chapter
one thing I held out until the last moment but didn't happen was the reveal that the redpox affected the entire world and every country was faking having men too. because come on the isolation policy was brutally enforced but it wasn't water-tight, no way knowledge of the lack of men could be contained, and the reason toher countries didn't invade was because they were also dealing with the same problem. this reveal would play into the theme of equality between the sexes and history happening either way.
>>281109235A little surprised that Takiyama took to Western male fashion so strongly. The silhouettes were very nice but the fabrics were as far as possible from the ostentatious patterns he liked.

>>281110052Itโs honestly a fantastic alt-history. I wonโt say it doesnโt have any flaws at all but itโs an amazing execution of concept and a great series of stories. Thanks for doing a public storytime in the threads.
>>281110052Thank you. I read part of this years ago, but this was the first time I read it all the way through and it was worth every panel. I'm astounded by how good it is, and how it stayed good throughout. There's this real quiet competency about it where it's not flashy, but it just does (almost) everything so well.
I'm still impressed at how every shogun looks somewhat similar, but they're all visual distinct. Even the many Arikotos are all distinct on some level. It's something else.
I felt so many emotions reading this. 10/10 manga.
>>281122018The secret history instead of alt-history would have been btfo though
Thank you OP and Anons for the unforgettable threads. This has become a favorite of mine as well and I hope to own it physically one day, despite some hiccups in translation here and there. I don't have anything new to say that hasn't been said before but it truly was a wonderful thing to experience. And I secretly hope anyone who goes to the de Young Museum later this year can make a thread and report back.
>>281112232In real life, Miss Takiyama began working in Oooku in 1818, but this may not be helpful. The historical Masahiro Abe was appointed to senior councilor in 1843. So, if Takiyama in this story was around 20 years old at that time, then he would have been in his mid-40s when Edo Castle was surrendered in 1868.
