Getting away from that to ANY amount of freedom is escapism for them. Sure there might be feudal stuff and slaves, but that doesn't apply to ((them)), just like no one thinks about slavery in the UAE or Africa. Plus the west high fantasy has more freedom than real feudalism, you can literally just wander from kingdom to kingdom and just slap some gold or silver down to do it.
