The another day while reading about the anime awards someone mentioned that anime originals dont get much of the attention just because they dont have a built fanbase as anime/light novels adaptation already have prior of the adaptation.

That makes me wonder how since when the weebs became into manga/light novels? If you think about many of the old classics probably what first comes into your mind are NGE, cowboy bebop, SEL, gurren-lagann. All orginal shows.

Even in the 2000s many beloved shows like claymore, hellsing, gantz barely followed the source material.

So ye anime originals became the anti-normie shows sadly

That's because original shows create an impact. They can become a new cultural phenomenon, whereas adaptations cannot. So yes, on average adaptations are much more popular and less likely to go unnoticed than the original shows, but they also have almost no chance of becoming a cultural icon.

I fell in love with Apocalypse Hotel this year, easily the best anime i've watched in many years, but it went almost entirely unnoticed by the anime-normie crowd. I had to literally force my anime-binging friend to watch it as he just ignored it when it came onto crunchyroll. Once he saw the first episode he shut up fast and saw the whole thing, but its like many anime consoomers only care about hyped-anime or lazy isekai/shounen slop.

Plenty of adaptations go on to become cultural icons where previously they held little relevance. Bocchi the Rock, Frieren (in comparison to its popularity pre-anime), etc.

Let's get back to this conversation in 10 years.

Apocalypse Hotel was great, but it kinda flopped. What now? Loads of my favourite ever shows and movies flopped, because people are plebs, and so are you.

>blade runner 2049
>edge of tomorrow
>limitless tv show
>gang related tv show
>son of zorn
loved all of them, all canceled after 1 season/flopped.

Manga generally last much longer than anime originals and so there's constantly new content. That may or may not get several adaptations but there's at least room for more content. At the same time there's a ton of garbage anime originals that lock people in at the start only to fall apart later so people may be more cautious of originals. If you just don't have an ending at all like a lot of manga adaptations that can be better than having a trash ending. People who also say they crave originals tend to not watch the ones that are made as well I've noticed.
