Caught up with the Johnny episode and holy shit it's good. Probably my favorite arc so far after Nice.

I can understand what they are trying to do, but quite literally having the entire first part being nothing more than setting things up for part 2 which is likely a year or more away is a mistake at this point.

The last two episodes felt less like buildups and more like the arc that ties everything related to the last few arcs together. It's Loli's, Ghostblade's and Queen's arcs that were more like buildups than anything and Johnny's part is apparently what concludes this part. Rest of the series will probably reveal the mysteries regarding Nice and maybe X or at least focus more on the central questions.

yeah, i think the main issue has been that half the arcs have felt both incomplete AND as as leading up to something big yet never actually delivering compared to Lin Ling or Yang Cheng's arc.

the series was pretty frontloaded, so slowing down to worldbuild has really made it a struggle to watch for more shonen-loving anime fans.

I was annoyed for most of the episode because it seemed to be nothing but a recap with slightly different animations and some internal monologue/perspective from Johnny.
But holy shit, that ending was powerful.
He remembered vividly the time he lived with his father, he relived the tragedy and trauma he suffered as a child while being mentally disturbed from the Fear substance. He realized his father's killer was right there.
This while the outro music started playing. Brutal. It sent chills down my spine and put tears in my eyes.
Then there is the fact that throughout the episode it is shown that Little Johnny is a really nice guy and still an innocent boy at heart, now filled with absolute murderous rage and sadness. It reminded me of the quote "beware the fury of a gentle man".
