I'm gonna be real, every single time I've had the "dub vs sub" shit flinging debate what it always comes down to, without fail, is that dubfags cannot fucking read at a normal pace.
20% of America is entirely illiterate. A further 20% cannot read above a 5th grade level. The latter type of person needs to, no joke, actually sound out every single word either out loud or in their head, which is where all the complaints of their eyes being glued to the bottom of the screen come from. It was a pretty big shock to me to learn that "speed readers" are just people who process printed words the instant they see them. That's completely normal.

Yes, enough to know when the subs are wrong. And before you ask, I ownload subs because other people who watch with me don't understand japanese. And before you claim I just think that because english is my first language, no it isn't, and dubs in my first language and a few others I've watched are all better than english anime dubs. And no, I don't have anything against english dubs per se, cartoons and non-japanese games are well dubbed, and even fromsoft games are well dubbed, it's particularly anime and anime-inspired videogames that get shit english dubs, so much so that in Kingdom Hearts the disney characters are better dubbed than the squeenix characters.

They seriously will just grab random VAs hanging around the office, give them a script for a show they've never heard of and tell them to cold read lines with minimal to no directing. The "directors" think they're some kind of genius auteurs who can elevate inferior material so they don't care how the Japanese did the story and actively try to prevent the VAs from interacting with it lest that "taint" some kind of great original performance.
