I'm guessing that means Bakuten? It's a rhythmic gymnastics anime, not olympic. It was very competent, no signs of QUALITY and some decent sakuga. It also had a movie with slightly higher production values. Only downside is that the actual performances were cgi, but they had some nice 2d embellishments and great directing to make up for it.

I'd say so yeah, the manga does give good rakugo lessons and explanations about the culture surrounding it but some rakugo performances do happen partially off-screen and the show does introduce a "Nen-power system"-like explanation about rakugo that's ridiculous, it kind of works at first because it makes the protagonist seem schizophrenic but then other characters start acknowledging the system which kind of made the story feel detached from real rakugo sometimes.

TMS did Detective Conan, Mermaid Forest and Nana Maru San Batsu.

All three anime have really mid animation per se, but top notch cinematography, really fitting OSTs, with kinda indie groups but the quality ones if you know what I mean. Their psychological animes are really good at keeping up the psychological tension, so stuff like animation doesn't matter because the seiyuu direction, etc. it's all really about recreating the essential tension experience.

No other anime studio can do this. That's why TMS would have been a perfect fit for Akane Banashi, they'd make the anime feel REAL, tense, hit you in the kokoro with the smart immersion.

Sorry for the vague description but basically TMS has really good overall cinematography so they turn low budget stuff into gold by focusing on making a quality immersion show by focusing on the perspectives properly and making the whole narrative feel silently intense.

No other studio can do that.

That's not the situation at all, the Witch Hat Atelier anime was announced back in April 2022 when the Akane-banashi manga was just 2 months old.
When they finally showed a trailer in 2024 where they said the 2025 release date it was one of those fake trailers that don't represent the final product at all like the one for Boogiepop or Chainsaw Man.
The previous anime by this studio, Zom 100, had a fuckton of production issues facing delays and animation problems.

The problem with Witch Hat Atelier is the studio's fault, not the director working on Akane-banashi.
