How difficult and time consuming is an "acceptable" clean/redraw? I feel like you can get away with MTL if the person doing it has at least a little familiarity with the language, and even the best human TL is still going to be dogshit if you have terrible ESL editing on the English script, but cleaning and typesetting can take a little finesse.

You can use capture2text with manga ocr. It has a debug function where it captures the text image as jpg file. All you have to do is getting manga ocr to read the image from that folder to get the ocr text. The thing that make capture2text so good is the bubble capture function, which cloe seem to missing. It's not perfect, but it is able to pretty accurately capture most speech bubble saving a lot of work.

You mean C2T has the debug function? But then I'm still just using C2T's older and poorer text recognition, which is what I'm trying to find an upgrade for. I just want something that operates like C2T, allows me to bind a hotkey to my mouse (in the program itself, not replacing keystrokes with autohotkey because that interferes with regular function) but has a more up-to-date text recognition. Everything I've tried is an upgrade in text recognition but a downgrade in actual functional usability.

Yes, it should be somewhere in the setting. I try to find the upgrade for capture2text but no luck. This is the next best solution. You are only using the capture function of c2t to get the image before it sending to tesseract ocr. You should be letting the manga ocr to read the image to get the text.
