Aira and Zuma's backstories are very similar tales of familial sacrifice and grief. Rin's backstory as well is basically "my best friend who I thought I lost always loved me". Jiji's backstory is literally a rural serial killer mystery that brought us an entire species of enemy. The entire arc is named just for his yokai.

Which Tatsu is now cashing in to put Jiji squarely above everyone else in the cast as far as power. Despite doing very little on page to convince us he's been trying to become more powerful/reliable.

It's more galling to me that Tatsu seemed to give us an enemy of that magnitude just to basically prove to the reader that Jiji is the only member of the cast who *could* conceivably kill it.

Regardless of whether he gets a blunt and insensitive rejection or it's some kind of empty "You're really special but my heart belongs to someone else", it will still be the culmination of a series long love triangle that never felt interesting or engaging in its drams.
Jiji has always had some foot in the story even when he was technically invisible and now Tatsu is trotting him out like a show horse. It's just bizarre and a little fatiguing and I hope that jiji fans will just admit that their joke character has basically supplanted Momo and Okarun
