God damn this shit is so bad. I swear the more I look at it the more I realize that Volg getting an actual complete character arc was a fucking god sent miracle because no other character in this manga will ever get the same. Should've just had Sendo win here and challenge Ippo, then had Ippo fight Miyata on the deciding bout to challenge Sendo, then end the manga on Sendo VS Ippo. Easy, simple, and effective. Instead Ricardo will crush yet another challenger, Ippo will hem and haw about making his return, and the manga and its characters will go nowhere until the mangaka is dead and the story ends unfinished.

Lol, it is good that you are not the one writing this. Ippo kicked sendoโ€™s ass two times already, no need for a rematch against some one like that. Having sendo win this match is downright dumb, one of the strongest boxer in the series losing to sendo? Might as well have aoki beat takamura in an official match and end his winning streak.

Both matches of Ippo VS Sendo were highlights of the manga, I see no issue ending it on the third and final bout between them, and if not that just have the manga end on Ippo VS Miyata. Regardless if Sendo WAS going to fail here there was no reason for him not to lose the match BEFORE this so the story can progress in the exact same direction, with better themes, without wasting all these chapters.

Sendo was actually doing okay up until this chapter. He was pressuring Ricardo with heavy blows and blocking or parrying most jabs and the ones that did hit him were countered with a head slip. It's clear now that he could only do as much just because Ricardo was still in his "passive" phase.

If Alfredo lost to ippo, it'd be the least clean win in the entire manga. I re read that fight and even with Alfredo becoming retarded halfway and George not being able to decide if the "Rage mode" is a blessing or not, he still absolutely beat the brakes off ippo at every single range.
And man-handled ippo at range for the majority of the fight.

Alfredo was about 1/10th of the fighter, comparatively, in his fight against sendo. It was just not a good fight in a thematic or narrative sense.
>timid opponent rerun of the exact same dynamic against ippo
>except he doesn't dominate the long range and wins on points before going for the kill
>his long range strikes and setups are ineffective and don't do damage anymore (for some reason)
>his fight iq is 70, before 140
>his rage mode suddenly doesn't dominate in close range
>zero knockout potential whatsoever
It was a waste. Just feeding cans to sendo

It is pretty ridiculous how Takamura is just an unbeatable god and everyone else is just a pathetic jobber. Also the premise of Ricardo being the ultimate final boss gets stupider as every year in the mangas timeline passes, boxing is a young mans sport, especially in the lighter weight classes where speed is more important. You can't go polar bear mode like Foreman in your 40s and just rely on brute strength and mass in the lower weight classes. Honestly the manga would've been way better if Alfredo actually beat Ricardo and became the new final boss instead of having a guy who would've realistically been looking at retirement years ago inexplicably hanging on to the title.

I dont think ippo's been retired for more than a year or two, at most. Timelines might be fucked but Takamura hasn't declined in the slightest and hasn't grown old either. He's in his 30s

>Mayweather
GOAT, but even still his last KO in a professional fight was 14 years ago, when he was in his 30s, after that he relied on outpointing and his superior movement and defensive boxing since he didn't have the power and speed he once did in his youth for actual knockouts. Ricardo is still firing out shots like he's a 21 year old in just this last fight. If the manga acknowledge Ricardos age and had him shift his style to a more savvy, measured one that let him still get wins despite his age, that would've been cool, but he basically stays in his prime and somehow gets even more powerful rather than aging negatively effecting him. It's dumb shit but then again this manga is basically DBZ half the time with how the fights go (Miyata VS Randy) so whatever.

Ricardo was never this physical beast though. The name of his game is discipline and mental game. He was depicted as the most clean boxer ever, with a hardened and cold mentality, call it killer instinct, that made him something more than a sportsman.

The idea that such a guy could prolong his natural peak seems doable, if he is a one in a billion genius line the manga says.

Don't think so. At least, that's not how I remembered it. Ricardo was simply better than Alfredo and no one had ever really breached him and made him feel human. His technical skill was simply that high.

Alfredo got the furthest using his wild style, but styled himself on Ricardo as a way to calm down.

George in any case shows plenty of monster hits, but what Ricardo is doing, still, is textbook boxing stuff with counters on opportune targets. His hits really hurt because he's so measured and able to read ahead.

At least, that's my take on what's going on in this fight.

This is a thing

>You have read the manga, watched the anime, and this year, fans can get a chance to experience the world of Joji Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga through a live boxing event titled "Dynamite Glove 2025," on November 18 at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall โ€” the real-life venue where many of the manga's iconic boxing matches were held.

>The first official, one-night-only event that brings the manga's world into the real ring will feature seven live professional boxing bouts; an art exhibition of the original manga including rare artwork(s); immersive anime-inspired visuals, banners, and boxing ring atmosphere; and a live talk session, in a rare public appearance by manga creator Joji Morikawa.

FUCK NO.

Christ, Sendo has done nothing at all to deserve World Champion status, and the manga has been building Ricardo up as the ultimate for a decade now. Throwing that away for the third fucking Ippo v Sendo match would be absolutely shit.

If Sendo wins this match I'm gonna have to talk myself out of dropping the manga.

Sacrificing narrative for realism rarely makes your story better.

Yeah, in reality most things that happen in sports manga aren't realistic, that's not really the point. Removing the character who's been setup for years as the final boss because "Um actually, he's too old in our sliding time scale series!" is incredibly unsatisfying. Nobody cares about that shit.

And what, Ippo should be an outboxer and rely on range instead? He's short and has small reach, he can't do what Miyata does.

The coach specifically trains Ippo on defence, ducking, weaving and minimising damage. His defence has been praised at multiple points in the series where he avoids hits at close range.

If Ippo tried to box anyway except what he was doing, he'd his end up a middling ranker like Aoki.

The series is clearly building towards a conclusion and having Ricardo setup as prominently as possible for that conclusion is good.

I think Sendo v Alfredo was absolutely fucking bullshit too, but following up bullshit with more bullshit isn't going to make things better. Handing Sendo undeserved wins, when he's done absolutely nothing to improve as a character or a boxer, and he relies on exactly the same style that got Ippo reprimanded is ridiculous.

Not really.both were clean KDs. Refs only really stop fights if they think the fighters cant defend themselves due to being dazed.

For example, the Usyk Dubois fight: first KD was more Dubois being caught off balance, second KD was a proper KD. He got counted out instead of waved off.

Mayweather is not a good comparison. He was undersized and had notoriously brittle hands. Furthermore, Sendo is CRASHING into Ricardo's shots. You can't do that and not get knocked out, it doesn't matter if your opponent has pillow hands. The boxing in Ippo is very, very unrealistic but this is the one thing that actually makes sense. Wow. What a fantastic way to celebrate the 1500th chapter. George is such a goddamn fucking hack, I'm so sick of this shit. Ricardo is the blandest character ever written. It would unironically be a more satisfying conclusion for him to die off screen than suffer through yet another one of his fights where he just wins because he's le strong.

Ricardo isn't exactly Sendo or Ippo in terms of punching power, but he aint no feather fingers like Miyata either. His right straight is the real deal. When he landed it on Date and Date managed to hold and survive, Ricardo was legitimately shocked that Date must have actually taken blows from someone in the world with more power than himself. Add in the fact that he can and will relentlessly wail on you nonstop in the most surgical way possible for over half a match, him being a physical beast shouldn't even be a question.

Miyata had already earned his W earlier. Landing one good counter punch is hardly plot armor.
>ippo vs wally
Eh the whole fight was bullshit anyways. Wally is a bullshit character anyways, he deserves to be beaten by bullshit.

Ippo has no plot armor. The plot is that he got brain damage and retired. Theres no plot to advance other than him returning. Mashiba lost and is in the hospital and Sendo just got knocked down twice.

Miyata vs Randy Boy is also probably in the top 5 fights in the whole series. Miyata had Randy beaten then he rallied and then Miyata landed his counter. What plot was advanced by this victory? If anything Miyata is in a limbo since then.

You can call a victory a reach, but all you really need in boxing is the right punch. Even a super tired, cornered guy can land a desperate haymaker and win.

Bitching for the sake of bitching.

I don't agree. Even though he always wins its rarely easy. He wins by the skin of his teeth and already has a permanent injury. People are so fixated on the 0 but he has paid a high price to reach this point. His storyline is the best as showing off the amount of sacrifice and pressure that comes with being at the top of the game.

If Mashiba didn't die after falling on his neck with all the deathflags Morikawa was showering him with, I doubt Sendo who's decidedly more pants-on-head retarded and reckless than Ipoo will die either and Sendo eats punches more. Worst case scenario is him accidentally ruining his fist after losing so he can retire, get married and become a firefighter fulltime. But not before giving us the usual breadcrumb where he hypes up Ippo getting back in the ring and throwing punches that can actually put Ricardo down.

Alf was the only one other than Date to bring this side of Ricardo out. Sendo not being able to bring this out would be quite sad.

I have no idea how to compare the Woli match to the Date beating. He didn't seem to go into his merciless oppressor mode, but he was put on the defensive for most of the match and did seem to go to another plane of elation near the end >>281223389

I was always for the two of them getting together until recently, but now Kumi needs to go. At last I truly see that it should be blows before hoes in the boxing world.
Narratively, I don't think it makes much sense to split them up after building them up for 1500 chapters, but it also made no narrative sense to retire Ippo against a literal who, so anything goes, really.

i think is more reasonable that Kumi tells Ippo that she doesnt want to see him anymore because she cant take him out of boxing, but eventually in 200 chapters, after Ippo goes back boxing and is a world ranked again, they reunite again because she finally understands that forcing him to pick between her and his passion is retarded and selfish

I thought that everything with Ippo and Kumi surrounding Mashiba becoming a vegetable was handled pretty well. You really can't blame Kumi being pissed at Ippo, she was clearly reaching out to him at her lowest point and he prioritized boxing over her. Their relationship ultimately can't work, she will never be able to accept boxing being as important to him as it is and he will never most past it. Them getting back together after Ippo truly retires is a possibility but Kumi just kind of waiting for Ippo to start caring about her enough then instantly hopping on his dick would make her look pretty pathetic.

That's how Takamura, Volg and Miyata have always won. They don't have emotional excuses to step into a ring, they simply live for boxing and once they enter into the ring, they simply leave everything behind and go ahead to eat or be eaten.
That's what means being a monster: let go of all the affectionate or emotional chains and be willing to die.

Ippo's message is anti-nekketsu.
Ai or Nakama power won't bring you further, only your hunger for victory, egoism, willpower and willingness to abandon everything.
If you think about it, the key to win is undergoing a nekketau rival-to-enemy path to darkness arc.

Can be explained by superior shot placement, superior timing and speed. He doesn't need absurd power to do what he does. He doesn't even need stamina if he dominates timing and space and fights on his own pace.

His style is great for an aging fighter. Not that he has even taken much damage during his bouts either. His long prime can be explained by all of this without much issue.

You retard.
Ippo returns to boxing because it's the only thing he has left for him. Kumi cuts ties w/ him, mom dies and Kamogawa croaks, so the only thing he has left is to ask Jagi to make him become a pro boxer again and arrange some retur fights.
The things that will happen are:
>Ippo's return fight vs Imai.
>Ippo vs Itagaki, it's revealed Itagaki told Kumi, now that she was free from Ippo that he'll marry her if he loses. Ippo wins with a OHKO, Kumi decides to talk and have a clean break w/ Ippo. She, Mashiba and Manabu get benched.
>Ippo has issues to climb again in the japanese ranking because NOBODY there wants to fight him after the 2 curbstomp fights, Miyata challenges him for the asian title.
>He barely wins. Their rivalry and homosexual tension ends there.
>Ippo has another class meeting w/ Umezawa et al. He gets the news of Martinez issuing a fight for the world title against him... in the Budokan.
>Itagaki marriage. Kumi asks him if he's ok with her marrying Manabu and Ippo shrugs it off, saying it was inevitable as they belong to opposite worlds now.
>The day before the fight and after having his weight checked, Ippo meets again with Aikawa, knowing he may not come back alive or mentally sound... he uses his big mara on her for the 1st time just for the sake of letting some pre fight stress off. Fortunately, the big mara makes her not being able to go to the stadium(*)
>Ippo vs Martinez becomes a wild fight... Ippo is about to lose, but has no regrets, however, he begins to hallucinate w/ Kamogawa who tells him, not to win or lose, but to LIVE, only that way, he'll find the meaning of being strong. All his rivals and his pupils encourage him to get up because there's 1 round left. They resume the fight, but it gets too intense to the point of throwing fouls at each other. Right when Ippo is about to give the dempsey roll that will give him the victory, the match ends... nobody wins, it's not even a draw, it's a no contest.

Takamura will win his next fight
Coach will seem disinterested, causing further rift between Takamura and Ippo
Coach will pass away
Ippo will feel guilty
Ippo will throw away his "humanity" and cross the line that Takamura drew in the grass all those years ago, becoming a "monster" who will challenge the world
Ippo will claw his way back to the top to challenge Ricardo
Ricardo will correctly guess that Ippo's fists are the heaviest in Japan and that is why Sendo was unafraid of Ricardo's punches
Ippo will lose against Ricardo and die in the ring Ashita no Joe style
Ricardo will retire and give up the belt, claiming there is no one left to fight

He simply went full monster bc his (at that moment) oneitis got attacked.

The crowd is an extension of whatever the narrative with which the reader is most likely to sympathize. It does get kinda stupid, yeah. Ricardo is on his home turf and has also been the undisputed champion for years, not 20 people in the crowd should give a shit about some no-name Japanese in the ring.

Miyata literally crawled on his hands and knees back to is corner, any sane ringside doctor would've stopped the fight based on that alone.

Ippo has no plot armor? Sawamura literally knocked Ippo out on his feet then just stared at Ippo. Old man Take Keichi could've ripped the cut on Ippos head open in a clinch but didn't even through it would've guaranteed him the victory. Ippo only beat Malcom Geddo because Itagaki told Kamogawa what was going on.

>Even though he always wins its rarely easy
I disagree. Outside of his major fights he's always won easily, via easy KO. His major fights are Bryan Hawk, Eagle, Bison, and Keith Dragon. Of those four his hardest fight was Hawk and that was due to the weight cut. Eagle was competitive but he was drowning at the pace of the fight, and Bison and Dragon only had success because Morikawa realized Takamura was going to win too easily and to make the fights interesting he had to give Takamura injuries to handicap him to make things interesting.

Kek, however i was referring to Kamogawa's assistant.
The asterisk part refers to Aikawa being a bad luck harbinger everytime she goes to see Ippo's most important matches. In the prediction-fic, Ippo... or should i say, Ippo's big mara leaves her with shaking legs and bedridden, so that prevents Aikawa from going to the stadium. However, because she's seeing the match on TV, it still prevents Ippo from winning, and because he can't lose, the only salomonical solution is for Ippo and Martinez match finishing in a no contest.

Iโ€™m not sure what angle youโ€™re going for so I will make an interpretation.

Photography is what changed art from โ€œreplicationโ€ to โ€œreflectionโ€. No longer was the pinnacle to recreate life: that could be done perfectly, by machine. Impressionism and the like arose to *examine* life, to evoke thought and emotion through abstract reflection of how a time and place could feel, rather than how it exactly would look.

Literature has always been about that. Encapsulating elements of life, to examine and experiment and try and absorb. People read sad poetry not to just have fun being sad, we do it to feel a connection to other people, in another time and place, who was feeling the same sadness as we were, to reflect on that, and hopefully learn to grow and deal with it.

Youth, triumph, age, loss, death, are all parts of a full story. This isnโ€™t some postmodern addition, itโ€™s as old as writingโ€”Gilgamesh ends with him failing, and aging, and dying.

And sometimes something that is sad or harsh can be more beautiful than a sugar-candy illusion without depth.

Killing someone in the ring will break Ricardo, he will no longer be the final boss for Ippo.He will lose to some filipino guy and go on a 3-fight losing streak and then face Ippo where he will regain his fighting spirit but he will lose to Ippo and eventually retire.

He is right, Ippo was absolutely blessed to get as far as he did while comparatively sacrificing very little compared to most boxers
But being the worlds best takes something else

I wouldnโ€™t see that ever breaking him. He is adult enough to understand that the risk is always there in boxing.
