Funny how Classic Nardo is all focused on the suffering of child in the shinobi world. Haku being sold as a slave, Gaara being treated like shit and mindbroke by his father, Neji and the head family and Sasuke being the only survivor of a massacre...And then we have Naruto who we don't have a single flashback about his "hard days", it all comes from what he tell us and because is "implied" by kishi. Reading only the manga it feels like 60% of his problems were because he was an orphan and a retard, the other 40% because he was the Jinchuuriki. His infacy was kinda normal so I guess Hiruzen wasnt so bad at all, maybe the village treatment could have been much worse if it wasnt for the third hokage.

One of the core themes of early Naruto is the duality of ninja being disposable tools of war for their nations but also still being squishy, vulnerable humans underneath who yearn for love and connections. He's shown being a able to pick up new abilities fairly quick (fire style, Lee'a tai jutsu/speed, chidori), but this was mostly with guidance (he picked up Leea taijutsu with the Sharingan, but Kakashi stated he had him focus on his technique and speed during training). With all the prodigy bullshit I wouldn't be surprised if Sasuke developed all of his abilities in the beginning pre-massacre and stagnated afterwards.
