What if, there's an Isekai that actually takes it's time to build a coherent world?

- Guild and fighting systems like Monster Hunter where each monster/villains actually has interesting characters, and the fights has weights,
- Arcs that are interesting and differ from each other with shonen jump's system like one piece,
- Proper characterization and fantastical world with no cringe fan service,

Imagine it like Berserk but Isekai, not edgy dark like Overlord.

This is the problem with modern isekai. Actually it's a symptom of the problem rather than the root problem, but it sucks nonetheless. Here's the real root cause why in general old isekai is much better than new isekai. In the old isekai, it was all about the other world, about exploration and adventures in this strange and alien place, where the authors really put a lot of effort into making it interesting. In new isekai, it's mostly just a bout a power fantasy for the MC. It's not really about the other world at all. The other world is just an excuse to give the MC power and girls.

It's definitely not an isekai exclusive problem, to be honest I think Japanese fantasy output is relatively weak overall.
It's just lazy authors who think fantasy is a specific setting and not a genre and realm of possibilites of "what if we lived in a world like this". There's no interesting questions or implications, it's just a backdrop for the story. Same with Sci-Fi that's completely devoid of meaning but there's robots and flying cars.

Fantasy is a genre where you can go anywhere, yet people decide to keep rehashing the same setting instead of the MC being sent to an entirely foreign world and seeing them have to learn and adapt.

Plenty of isekais this season. A few of them are sequels where the other world part doesn't matter much anymore. Water mage is alright if you don't mind generic setting.

Of course I know what shousetsuka ni narou is. There's even a japanese term for the generic setting most of these use "narouppa" from narou and europpa.
I'll be the first to say that older fantasy anime isn't exactly the most original either. Now it's mostly narou kei, back then most of it was sword & sorcery shit. I've seen a bunch of old fantasy OVAs that were indistuingishable from one another. For stuff like Lemnear the only thing I can praise are the designs by Urushihara. I personally liked Slayers, but originality isn't that show's strong point either. From the stuff I've seen, probably Moribito, Erin and Guin Saga had some of the more interesting worldbuilding, but for each show like that there's a dozen generic ones too.

Fine, I'll watch episode 1 and report back. I actually quit watching seasonals in 2017 and started again last year and honestly 2025 is a pretty good year so far. Ishura last year was also the first fantasy I have enjoyed in a while, the CG was ugly as sin but it had actual interesting writing.

The problem with isekai is that it's just fantasy in disguise. There's nothing different from a generic fantasy other than the mc knows what modern stuff is. If you think about it, isekai should be the largest most varied genre out there. Exploring entirely different worlds? jumping from one world to the next? The possibilities are LITERALLY endless. Isekais usually don't even go back and forth between the real world and the fantasy one let alone go somewhere besides a generic dragon quest rip. Why are isekai so creatively bankrupt when they have the setting with THE MOST creative liberty to write literally any world they want?
