Basically in addition to the whole timeline pruning shit, the world is also just a simulation that runs on some computer in the real world. As the simulated people struggle for their lives they create life energy which is used to sustain the sole surviving babby on a spaceship where said computer is located on. The whole town does have a really tech-y look especially when the black mist stuff happens and it doesn't seem like anything outside of it even exists, so I feel like this is a strong possibility.

And that's a good thing, the premise is unusual enough that it could be explored further in interesting ways.

So with this reveal, it basically calls into question whether anyone is even real, like if this is a bunch of simulation worlds, or if it is actually multiple parallel worlds like Bokurano. Also what Seimei himself is, since he's aware of it, but also seems to be an individual in each world as well.

I predicted this part for a while and it's cool seeing it confirmed. Didn't predict the other half of the twist at all though. I assumed it was just their world and our world somehow being involved, not two almost identical worlds of theirs that fight each other. Glad I picked this up, originals are almost always the most interesting parts of a season.

Damn this is literally what I often dream about for more than a decade now. Some story happens, eventually I am about to get killed or die and teleport myself back in time to change the outcome, only to realize that I didn't just jump back in time but also in a slightly different world. Sometimes I only notice it days later, when I look at a map and realise that the borders of a country are different from the ones the real world/my original world has.
Maybe the director dreams of the same shit. I dream it almost every night.
