I don't think I'd say go off the rails. But I do think some things weren't as thought out near the end. Basically after sis disappears we don't really get anything of her, which I guess makes sense, but we also sort of lose the side characters. A similar complaint about dropping side characters or them moving into the background was levied at Houseki no Kuni when it was wrapping up.

Bur I didn't read GLT when it was ongoing and maybe as much as I like the ending right now I would have felt similar if I'd been following that series. GLT doesn't really have side characters to drop though so that helps it.

Well, there's only a few panels but she talks a bit with the girls before explaining about the physics of the donut world and all that and then she tries to commit sudoku. Even as she's going for it she comments that she's probably only doing it because of Sumida-chan's feelings, then it cuts to Sumida drawing Mogawa-sensei and the noose. Maybe Sumida's sad because she wants to be with Mogawa but can only draw her instead. They figured the hole they dig goes into their subconscious so maybe if mogawa-sensei dug holes instead of bake donuts she would find Sumida inside of her and they'd be happy, just like Shimeji-chan had to go underground to find the school room inside of her and Majime-chan inside the school, the same place they first met.
