Honestly I'm done with this anime

This is not panty and stocking it's a sad excuse for a season 2 and to milk the fans of the anime

panty and stocking was an anime with top tier animation quality, great creativity, funny jokes, timeless soundtrack and interesting storytelling

each episode hit that sweetspot between a funny unpretentious cartoon and deeper story telling of anime while also being meaningfull apart from a few episodes, the ghost battles were fun to watch and entertaining, the side characters were legitimately fun, there were parodies but they kept it contained

this season 2 had an amazing first episode that got me excited but every episode after it has gone down step by step, to the point that I barely watched this episode at all, at some point i just left it running on the second monitor and started browsing other things

the sex jokes are not creative or non existant, there's no creativity apart from a few small episodes (cat episode was cool but also super short) the animation quality has turned to shit, the side characters are annoying and boring, the humour is random japanese humour, and the soundtrack is a complete recycled bullshit (at least the ending music is cool)
there is no buildup leading to the ghosts and the ghost fights, there is no charisma and EVERY EPISODE IS A PARODY, seriously what the fuck

anyone willing to defend this bull shit just start rewatching the original and it'll be clear

This is all I need to see to confirm that I'm gonna pass on season 2. I had already lost a lot of hype when the entire dub cast got replaced and downgraded, along with the toning down of jokes. I knew it was a bad sign when Garterbelt's crosses were removed in the trailer. Even a show like this went PC, lmao.

Shame since I waited 15 years for it.

This squarely isn't true and I've criticized the production value downgrade a lot, personally.
This is an anime they wanted to make, fantasized about being legally allowed to make, for over a decade. And when Gainax's fetid corpse finally went into liquidation against all odds they finally had a legal right to take their decade worth of barroom spitball ideas and try to put them into a show. A sequel to a show, let me reiterate, was never financially successful in the first place.
Whatever you want to say about the execution go ahead and say it, I know I am. But this is almost the furthest thing from a cash crab.

I know this is the schizo thread, but I really am feeling a bit let down by the last episode. Rewatching the original right now and I dont know if its nostalgia, but when they did action back then it felt more "cool" . the toilet episode had some great art, and the comic parody last episode made me laugh, but all of the music is worse, there's no focus on anyone else but panty and brief... I trust that they will pull through, but there hasnt been a really standout episode besides the first one yet.

No. First of all, the geneva convention thing only has to do with active war zones and doesn't even give the red cross exclusive use of the symbol in that context. The thing the red cross goes after people for is a trademark. But it only has to do with selling medical and emergency related equipment with the symbol on it. But the considerable leeway they're given due to their lobbying would not extend to them going after a depiction of a religious order. That is unquestionably beyond the scope of their trademark. The original series has a few clever capers in it. I also like how gunsmith cats has a very realistic depiction of actual space. Sonoda learned how all of the guns work interally and sometimes cuts to a transparent view in split second timing to show you what the gun is doing and how fast it is doing so. More than that, understanding how the gun works is what gives Rally her advantage. She has godly precision and accuracy with her 9mm and uses it to pick off the weaknesses in the gun. She'll shoot off a hammer, or the tube mag of a shotgun, and disable the weapon or shooter without seriously injuring anyone. The hyper accuracy also beautify mixes with at least one surreal drug trip scene.

Some of the MacGuffins are kind of lame. Ken Taki engineers an impossible Sherlock TV show level fake his own death plan, that works beyond all belief. Goldie, a major villainess, develops a mind control drug that makes her pretty OP. Bean Bandit is very much super OP, like you get to Burst and he's just a straight up super hero. There's a romance element that nobody wants to touch where nine year old Minnie May starts a relationship with Ken, but they stay together even through her becoming a teenage prostitute. Becky is Jewish princessstereotype incarnate and the kidnapping plot is kind of lame. Still, all in all I think this is a makeable, marketable and profitable series and I hope it does get picked up.

I've only watched the first two episodes and they were decent, the first one dragged and they clearly didn't have enough material to fill it up, Brief's random monologue was too long and cringy but the rest of the episode was fine.
The second episode's first segment did a good job re-establshing the whole coin dynamic and including the demon sisters in it but spent too much time on the car chase and Brief's stupid antics and the fight with the ghosts was very anticlimactic.
The second segment was the best part of the episode, the Yu Gi Oh parody was on point and Panty defeating the ghost without the usual method was a nice change of pace.

They're so focused on getting those concepts all into the show now that they own the IP again that they've kind of lost site of the follow through. The individual episodes aren't holding up. Like the ideas are more important than the execution this time around.
I think things like the extra short episodes are 100% a result of this dynamic. It's so they can do more of these concepts they had but I think in the end they're cheating those ideas by making them impossible to do really well.

No. The first 5 episodes were already good. Episode 6 where the Demon sisters are introduced and fight against Panty and Stocking was simply the peak of the series and it never got to that high again (though the concert scene got close).

Also the Demon sisters work well when they're used sparingly like in season 1 and to contrast Panty and Stocking. Shoehorning them in every episode for the sake of it and having them do their own thing like it happens in season 2 is fucking boring.

I used to be an artfag. Yoh Yoshinari's sketches were beautiful and I copied some of them.

I've gone through the new season slowly, but obviously the storyboarders and animators have weaker grasp on things like drawing scenes and line weight. Old P&SG was looked lax but still had a solid understanding on the basics. Nowadays animation should also be harder because they have to draw in HD quality.

Trigger has talent for animation (Edgerunners) but I think they outsourced the brunt animation work here to Vietnam or something (just a random guess).

This is the biggest issue with the new show. Yes yes, I know that the original series had a lot of American references too, but it was still a Japanese show being made for Japanese audiences and it really felt like it. The new show is very clearly being made for Americans who watched dubbed anime on streaming services, and it loses that special, unique spark that the original had.

S1's references were just little one-second one-off things, like, say, the Lady Gaga reference in the D City Rock music video. Not EVERY episode needed to have a full-scale parody of an American movie or whatever, nor did it need to reference ancient memes like fucking Ugandan Knuckles.

I don't know. I think S2 is pretty good still. Maybe it's not as novel as the first season but you can clearly tell that the creators are still having fun with it.

I know this ain't getting a season 3 thankfully, but at this point if they did Trigger would need to recast almost the entire cast
Panty's VA was retired for years but they paid her enough to come back for this season one last time (Panty was the only main character she ever voiced, she mostly voiced one offs and secondary characters from the late 90s to the mid 2010s), Fastener's VA is retired and didn't came back and Kneesock's VA is retired and didn't came back so they recasted her and as you can see they show barely use either of them as a result almost as if they're afraid of having them do much of anything due to the VA change, they already wasted all their money buying this IP from Gainax and charming Panty's VA into coming out of retirement, I can't see them getting a good VA to replace Panty's if they do make a third season, Kneesock's new VA is pretty, she's just using the same voice she used for To Love-Ru's Rito and sounds nothing like the old Kneesocks so it is very distracting
