The issue is most fighting game plots are stupid, SF is no exception. Chun-Li's story is honestly one of the few that's really worth talking about since its a (mostly) straightforward crime drama. Of the three Fatal Fury OVAs, the first two tried to follow (a) game's plot but largely made the characters fucking miserable or otherwise generally unlikable. The third had basically nothing to do with any game's plot but finally made the characters likeable and even fun.

I suppose because none of them were "good" adaptations of the games for various reasons, even if the third finally got the characters right. I feel like "good" SF adaptations should be single-character focused and vastly different depending on who it is. Like nowadays I think a good Ryu story would be reflecting on key fights in his life and how his views on what strength is has changed from Alpha-II-IV-V-III-VI, again Chun-Li has a straightforward crime story, Guile, Cammy, Sakura all work for a good focus, but holy shit so many of SF's characters are just fucking there
