I think any adult with any sort of vague authority could massively improve Shizuka and Marina's situations just by being openly invested in what's going on with them. Dunno if there's a Japanese equivalent of CPS they could call but at the bare minimum Marina wouldn't beat the shit out of Shizuka with someone else in her corner. Azuma is still up a creek but his only real problem is that he doesn't realize what a shithead his mother is; Charlie would clear that up in five minutes (assuming he speaks Japanese).

She gets given the closest thing she has to a family, and immediately pawns it off for her own gain, she doesn't deserve happiness.

You may hate hearing this, but Takopi is the Japanese version of Life is Strange and you can't prove me otherwise. Both have:
- female MCs with difficult relationship, one is loser and the other has hot temper that community ships hard
- beta boy who's interested in the MC but who only serves as a useful idiot
- rewind mechanic/time travel using photos from instant printout camera
- rewind mechanic doesn't work at crucial moment
- school bullying
- suicide
- crime (murder)
- broken families
- 5-6 episodes with twists and turns
- expertly directed and good usage of background music
- message: things are complicated, and people can be both good and bad
- when everything is bad, dog is good for mental health
The mangaka regularly doodles their thoughts on every bit of the anime. There's a ton of these on their X account. Maybe those could use some translation.
