Well, anon? Isn't it entirely possible?

Is it not a possible that letters I am typing simply conform by coincidence to the conditions of relevance towards your post?

Because your auditory reverberations indicated not only do you understand speech, you understood the implications of a cat talking and posited a philosophical question on the nature of biased coincidences versus sapience. Therefore it's not a coincidence and if you keep being cheeky you're not getting any temptations later.

Just because it is possible statistically for a monkey on a typewriter pushing keys at random to write an entire Shakespeare play does not mean it is likely.

Sure, but to paraphrase Dirk Gently, some things are so improbable that the merely impossible is more plausible.

A bird in my neighborhood has learned to mimic the sound of one of my dogs crying.
Some nights I hear it, get out of bed, and turn on the porch light, take a look outside, notice there is no water in the dog bowl, fill it up with water, and go back inside. I can then hear the bird's claws hop onto the steel bowl to get a drink of water.
Had to put my dog to sleep 6 years ago because he could no longer stand without pain or even hold his feces in long enough to go poop outside, the cry the bird learned was his.
On those nights I can't head back to sleep, so I just lie in the dark and listen closely waiting for the bird to finish drinking and eating the bugs that stick to the wall.

How do you feel about the bird doing that? Do you appreciate the rememberance? Or do you think he's an asshole?

I was just more sad than anything else, like looking at pictures of my dog when he was a pup. I know the bird is just doing so because it found a winning survival strategy
I just worry sometimes when I hear birds mimicking other pet's cries if that particular sound is coming from someone's still living pet or not.

Bird will keep singing a song to a mate or another friendly bird or animal that dies for their entire lives. It's possible that it's not just mimicing the sound of your dog because it liked the sound itself, but it could be their way to remember an animal it thought of fondly as a neighbor.

I'm pretty sure it just recognized a pattern and learned to take advantage of it.
I always let my dogs sleep inside at night, and my youngers dogs just claw at the door loudly to let me know when they want to come back in, my very oldest couldn't so he'd howl at the door. And at night, porch lights tend to attract bugs when left on. So the bird (crow?) must have noticed that when the howl was heard, bugs and water were available at this specific location.

It is possible the guy that got into my house, climbed the stairs to my room at mach 20, and said "it's me" when I asked who he was was indeed a member of the household who had every right to be there, but considering my father has parkinson and his girlfriend moves with the ease of a small hippotamus I elected that was not the case and scared the guy away.
Maybe he was my long lost brother or my husband though. I will never know.

Well there's a distressing thought. Though it's also a bit wholesome when you think about it, it's like the pet keeps on living through the memories of birds.

If a particular song won a bird a mate, they will often keep singing it until they die. Not try to get another mate. Just because. Just to remeber and celebrate. They can also just like how some sound sounds or feels to sing and repeat it a lot. Maybe some animals are purely about utility, but birds devote a lot of energy to play.

If it's actually a crow, it's very possible what that other anon said is the case. He really may have liked your dog as a neighbor. Crows are the at the top of intelligence levels for birds specifically. They can remember human faces and thus befriend or befoe people, and they hold funeral rites for fallen crows. Crows are a really special bird, anon. I'm sorry about your doggey, but try to remember the happy times and give extra love to your dogs and that bird while they're are still around
God bless, brother

It's possible human speech does not exist at all. It's all just random sounds that by pure coincidence have happened to make sense so far.
