The majority of isekai back stories are a footnote and abandoned somewhere along the way.
It's little more than attempting to get the reader to identify with the MC and relate to their experiences.
Excruciatingly slow burn stories are really unpopular. Cooking with Wild Game had a decent footnote and was unique as an isekai, it's also one of the older ones that doesn't follow the formula and attempts realism. Nobody has ever heard of it, the manga isn't popular, there's no anime.

The pre-PSO games are legitimately great and some of the best classic turn based stuff, on par with DQ and sometimes even surpassing it and trading blows with wizardry itself.
