Because dramatic tension and so Oku could kill some Gantz team members. It literally makes no sense that it can transport people, which whether or not equates to destroying and then reconstructing people still implies storing their data, but can't just make a copy with the data it already has stored.

The guys in the Buddah team were very entertaining and they had a lot of potential, but they were just there for one mission. The core squad are a platoon of veterans who have been to hell and back together, so it's not the same, though I would have loved to see Reika & Sei in the same team, and imagine how much they could have saved in lives, time and points if they had Sniper-kun keeping his distance as his default strat.

The Tokyo team unironically killed the Nurarihyon with all their suits busted too. Italy might have as well been a mission where they all got sent naked with just the weapons, and Reika still made a 100+ pts and Virgin-kun made like 50+. Circumstances matter a lot but yeah, experienced/talented hunters can get by without the suit in some missions.

For "active camo" pretty much any military has probably explored the science behind bending light for stealth and military purposes going as far back as the 1940's and 50's. So the idea of putting new technology on suits for combat isn't too out there. It just took until the 90's for it to look cool.

As for elevators, I'm guessing fun to draw up. If you've ever been to a real factory and seem some of the equipment or environment, some of them looks really futuristic like something from sci-fi and probably help spawned the genre. Just the idea of seeing human engineering at its peek being able to do stuff and lift and move several tons like its nothing using just a bunch of simple mechanical parts and cables is pretty jaw dropping.

He could have just written those chapters like normal, spending a couple more on Kurono's quest for Tae which has been dragging since last volume, and then have K2 and Reika assembling their team, with none of that distracting jumping around and absolutely nothing would be lost or changed.

There were pretty long breaks between chapters during this last arc, so I guess he just wanted to move all his different plotlines at least a BIT with the pages he had. He was probably trying to avoid the situation Berserk was going through, where you were waiting months to see what Guts was up to, only to spend the next several chapters on some Griffith side-story instead.

Problem is, after a few years when you can finally read the stories in full, Berserk's pacing seems fine whereas Gantz reads schizophrenic and like the author had ADD. What sucks is they could have easily got the best of both worlds if they'd just rearranged the pages for the tanks.
