Analyzing Kadokawa's financial reports, the main source of revenue for Kadokawa's IP is copyright income, and sales of peripheral products only account for a small part. The purchasing power of otaku is too weak, and they are unable to make money mainly by relying on peripheral products like Bandai Namco.

Bandai Namco (Apr. 1, 2025 to Jun. 30, 2025)

>1. Mobile Suit Gundam – 65.4 billion yen (up 29.3 billion yen from 2024)

2. One Piece – 32.8 billion yen (down 0.5 billion yen from 2024)

3. Dragon Ball – 26.5 billion yen (down 4.5 billion yen from 2024)

4. Naruto – 6.8 billion yen (down 0.6 billion yen from 2024)

5. Kamen Rider – 5.9 billion yen (down 0.3 billion yen from 2024)

>6. Pokémon – 3.0 billion yen (up 0.8 billion yen from 2024)

These sales for a company making nearly 1.5 billion dollars a year is nothing.
It's making it's money in mass production of series.

More like bandai namco are sharks that are trying to stranglehold the merchandise market.
They did this to sunrise, fucked over the contract they had and bankrupted sunrise overnight.
Result? sunrise was immediately eaten up by bandai, name changed and everything.

520 million yen, which is roughly 3.5 million usd. This is right after S3 finished airing (peak interest). Multiply that by 4 quarters (taking into account decay-lower revenue for subsequent quarters) and you will have under 13m usd for the entirety of 2025 FY. During the 2024 FY ending in 3/2025, rezero made 27m usd.

For context, the total revenue since the series' creation is roughly 60 billion yen, with probably 99% of it generated from 2016 onwards. Divide that by 9 fiscal years starting from 3/2016 and ending in 3/2025, you will have the yearly average of 6.7 billion yen or 45m usd. That's only the yearly average. The peaks of previous seasons, especially S1, were probably 1x billion.

This is really bad for kadokawa as a corporation if this is one of their best selling titles right after a new season. Not only is the revenue low compared to other non-kadokawa ips, but its also rapidly decreasing. I suspect the quality of marketing and the lack of figures for the cast, especially hit characters in S3 like Capella and Regulus have some underlying financial reasons. A lack of faith stemming from something that the higherups see. Hit characters from previous seasons like Echidna and Petelgeuse and other female side characters from S1/2 got a lot of figs (41 for Echidna for example). But none for S3

Furthermore, the earliest instance of kadokawa reporting sales for individual anime series was in Q1 2023 FY.
1. Rezero made more 2 years after S2 than 3 months after S3
2. Kadokawas top quarter performers just keep getting worse YoY
