Silky's backstory is just straight up the only one that feels grounded enough to be realistic. Every other backstory is a little too farfetched to really feel true sympathy for. As much as Zuma and Rin's backstory are very plausible, there's some horrible quality to Silky that seems like something you know is probably genuinely happening to lots of women at any given time. For some reason Japan especially, with its weird popular yakuza loanshark dynamic that prey on weaker citizens and the fact that single women are treated relatively poorly, it all kind of combines to make it feel too real and tragic. I like both Aira and Jiji, Aira’s fun because she’s a delusional narcissist who just inserted herself as the “leader” of a team in a world she just discovered a week ago and her powers are seemingly more geared towards support/utility (although I’m not fully caught up yet I’ve been reading a bunch of different stuff so that may change) and Jiji is just fun, i like that he actually is a convincing friend for Okarun currently.

I think at the least in both characters cases I can see why people would be sorta defensive about both, for as much as i love them I can EASILY see someone finding Jiji’s schtick annoying and Aira’s actions before joining the Ayase clan too much.

I can recognize this though and not care, I think the series’s biggest strength is setting up a running gag about an ever growing insane dysfunctional family and not having a single dud character for me. Like even Taro is great
