Steins;Gate
I've been watching this and 5 eps in the story feels really slow so far, to the point I'm thinking of dropping it. What episode does it start getting good?

The story gets better halfway through but not good enough to be worth watching. Transitioning from bad slice of life slop into mildly interesting drama doesn't save the show from being just mid.

I made this exact thread 2 years ago. Keep watching, I think on episode 6 or 7 you get a glimpse of a plot.
It absolutely gets going at 11 or so.

And the real anime with all the stuff you probably expected out of this one, is Steins Gate 0.>>281283606
SG0 is the one with the crazy plot and powerful drama but you gotta eat 22 episodes of the original Steins Gate to watch it.
Seriously follow this order
>22 episodes of normal Steins Gate
>Episode 23b (ova)
>Steins Gate 0
>Finish episodes 23 and 24 of the normal Steins gate

There's basically a gigantic empty space after ep 22 that you gotta fill with 0, it adds so much more to finishing the original anime I can't imagine people watching it any other way, and 0 has the real plot you've been waiting for pretty much.

Imagine having such brainlet shit fucking pathetic taste that you're not hooked by episode 1, it had such good directing it unironically needs to be studied.
And no, I'm not being ironic. You can only see your favorite show being insulted so much before you start thinking less of the ""people "" that constantly shit talk it 24/7.

>I think on episode 6 or 7 you get a glimpse of a plot. It absolutely gets going at 11 or so.
The plot starts in episode 1, there's a murder and blatant supernatural shit occurring, you're all just too brainrotted to enjoy good things, luckily you were also stubborn enough to keep going.

>Seriously follow this order
Never do this on your first watch. Watch ONLY the original series all the way through, don't ruin it with this meta order which cuts into the pace of the masterpiece. Then after you take a nice long break you go back and do this order for the full experience.

Other anon here. Ep 1 was good but the rest are anime Big Bang theory, there's legit nothing to hook you until Suzuha sees Kurisu and randomly does the unsheathe stance, that's the first time my heart skipped a beat and I went "oh shit!". But outside of that moment, it's slow and mostly boring. Even after the microwave thing I remember the episodes being lackluster.

It picks up like a big bang explosion on 12 of course and then 0, but I don't like excusing the middling start. Imagine how much worse it must have been in Visual Novel form, probably 15 hours of nothingness

First 10 or so episodes were comfy af which is big reason why the anime is so good, the other parts make the world feel dangerous but lab is still comfy and you can forget about the conspiracy with some lighthearted moments.

Steins;Gate has a very quickly paced introduction that throws all sorts of characters at the audience episode after episode while the phone microwave investigation progresses step by step. Various scenes throughout the early episodes show the audience evidence of time travel like Suzuha's oddities or the ibn5100 having been stored with the condition that someone would ask for it later. Then all of the stuff about SERN and the reports. Even with all of the slice of life moments it never stops moving forward.

Obviously a plot is happening but so does in most other anime and they're not as boring..
Maybe disliking = boring, but this is a very common criticism of Steins Gate so it can't be too far off the mark.
Obviously we see mentions of conspiracy stuff and that's cool, but I remember the meat of the episodes being boring talk and attempts at comedy at Okabe's lab and the other gimmick friends doing stuff.
I don't remember concrete episodes, just that I didn't enjoy the Slice of Life ones for the first eps (maybe right up until 12). Granted it got A LOT better once I switched to dubbed, the banter became much more friendly to follow.

S;G even sets up several big moments to end episodes on like the revived Kurisu in 1, gelbanna teleport and Kurisu in 2, and the first glimpse of "human is dead" in 3. 4 ending with the capture of the ibn5100 is the first time it even starts to let off the tension. Episode 3 is probably the perfect example of how good the early episodes are considering it focuses on the relationship between Okabe and Mayuri to demonstrate his emotional center while foreshadowing the entire dramatic tension where his involvement with the conspiracy draws him away from her and eventually cuts her out of frame entirely. The visual storytelling in the episode already sketches the themes of the entire story. Okabe gives the slightest hesitation thinking there might be consequences and the anime decisively signals that it's already over.

I enjoy dubbed anime when the dub is either better-than-decent (Hellsing Ultimate) or is iconic (Pokémon) or both (Dragon Ball/Z/Super), but there are some that are sacriligious to watch as anything but subbed. This is one of them.
