Unless your work is one of those where good characters die left and right, if you're gonna kill an important character the cause of death has to be something where you immediately go "yeah ok, he's fucking dead". Bugle Call has a higher kill count but it's not that brutal. Getting poisoned and fainting in an end of chapter cliffhanger is less permanent than even falling off a cliff.
I wonder if Mora mentioning how lethal the poison is was the author realizing he fucked up and that Miura didn't look like he died at all.

I really want to like this series, but I just feel like it's kind of aimless. Everyone feels like a side character in a plot and universe they just kind of experience from the perspective of detached outsiders.
For example, take Luca. Luca basically doesn't have a backstory.

Funny, that's one of the parts I find charming about the series. The time travelers feel like a really shitty DMs torturous plot on his players, who themselves range from freaky to normal.
