Not every Cygames show is good, but so far everything I have seen come out of them has been interesting. A weird, niche product that someone is clearly putting their heart and soul into. Even when those fall flat, those are always endearing.

And really, I just can't argue with the business model of "we make gachaslop to farm infinite money from otaku whales, and then use that to make weird shows that could never get made anywhere else."

I really enjoyed Apocalypse Hotel, Braven, and Akiba Maid War. If Cygames announces a new show, it has my attention and the benefit of the doubt.

You want a specific character in Granblue Fantasy? That character is only available for a couple of days every few months (creating artificial scarcity and FOMO) and you only have a 3% chance of draw a SSR in any pull (SSR being the highest ranked characters) and thats just to get ANY SSR, not even specifically the one you want.
The game will give you enough currency that if you save up for like half a year you can automatically force a pull of the specific character you want, but most people invested heavily in the game will chafe under what free currency alone allows and feel compelled to pay money. And some people spend a LOT of money on gacha games, enough to more than pay for all of the other players that don't.

Cygames has like a dozen of these money-printing franchises out there now. They then take this money, and flip it into promoting their franchises in other mediums. The spinoffs have been weirdly high quality. Granblue got an arcsys fighting game and a platinum games made JRPG. Cygames started funding anime adaptations/tie-ins to its games, before deciding to simply found their own studio and make things in-house instead of hiring other studios to do it for them. Now that they have an anime studio of their own, while they DO make anime based on their own IPs, they also make a relatively high rate of new anime original shows as well. And those anime originals tend to be on the weird side, such as "What if we make a hardboiled yakuza story but with maid cafes"

When people talk about great shounen arcs, Demon Slayer never crosses people's minds first, not even that overrated Infinity Castle arc, because it's predictable as fuck.

If Inosuke, Kanao and Shinobu fought UM1 instead of UM2 the outcome would be EXACTLY the same: Shinobu would sacrifice herself and use her asspull poison to nerf Kokushibo and Kanao and Insouke would finish him off. It makes NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER that Kokushibo should be able to murder them all instantly without even being touched in return because Douma should have been able to murder them all almost as easily. But the characters in this manga aren’t characters at all, they are just collections of traits and a flashback, so they do whatever scene the plot wants them to do, and it will always make perfect sense for that reason. They have no autonomy.

The mangaka makes it obscenely obvious in some cases like when Douma randomly remembers a personal history with Inosuke’s mother, just fucking drop in ANY character into that narrative it’s so fucking transparent.

That's why Demon Slayer never crosses anyone's minds when they talk great characters, great story arcs, great fights. Chuunin Exams, Soul Society, Enies Lobby, Saiyan-Namek, Dark Tournament, Chimera Ant, Dio, Makima, Shibuya and so on are all constantly brought up in shounen discourse but never Demon Slayer. It's so painfully predictable. You know how every plot beat and emotionally beat plays out.

KnY is trash, it was always nothing more than a mid battle shounen but which got picked up by a big money studio aka Sony Music Japan, turned it into a Ufotable normalfag product and shilled it from hell to back.
