Did you know? Episode 6 of Suite was originally scheduled to air on March 13th, 2011. However, it ended up being delayed due to news coverage of the Tohoku earthquake that pre-empted all programming on Japanese stations except for TV Tokyo. In addition, a scene in the episode in which Kanade's brother Souta is trapped in cake mix was edited to add sparkles to it to make it look less threatening or offensive to those who may have been involved.

From what I remember, Suite was originally going to have a different second half (a little darker like Heartcatch), but then the Great Tohoku earthquake of 2011 happened. This earthquake also triggered a tsunami and did some pretty big damage in Japan (including the Fukushima nuclear disaster at the nuclear plant in Fukushima) as well as take a good number of human lives. In the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, the show's writers though a lighter tone would be better for the rest of the season (this might also explain why the next season, Smile Precure, was light-hearted as well).

The 2011 earthquake definitely had an effect on all of Super Hero Time (assuming you want to count Precure as part of SHT.) Kamen Rider OOO basically wrote SaGoZo out of Eiji's moveset since it was entirely built around earthquakes and then the next season (fourze) took a deliberately lighter tone on the whole despite still having the standard amounts of drama. Super Sentai (Gokagier) very notably went from having a handful of planned cameos for its anniversary season to basically being nothing but callbacks and returning heroes, almost to the detriment of the actual characters and story from that year's season. And to tie back into precure, Smile basically doesn't have a plot in favor of being a simple fun ride.

The Precure do some idol antics, but they aren't really idols exactly. There's only really 3 episodes where the main focus is on the Precure acting like idols: 5, 10, 23. If you add episodes where idol culture is significantly relevant like the recent Kokoro episode, I guess it might go up to 10 or something like that, but I would say Wonderful focused harder on animals than this season focuses on idols. I'm personally neutral towards idols but am enjoying this season a lot, so I don't think the idol theme is a huge factor overall. Interestingly, Kimi to Idol is the most fairy heavy season in quite a while. HG was pretty up front about the fairies being major characters, but I'd say the fairies are more prominent in Kimi to Idol all things considered.

With something like Hirogaru Sky it's almost like they were satisfied with the show being very kid friendly because they also had Otona on the side. Having spin-offs is good but it's not the ideal recipe imo, we aren't going to have those all the time and they're limited to sequels, I would prefer to have the main shows doing cool things as well.

The Reiwa seasons are all pretty different from each other. I don't like HS and think Wonderful would have been better if it were closer to typical Precure, but they are both definitely unique. Kimi to Idol too, but that's only really obvious at the one-third point or so.

The battles this season are really short it feels like. Covid reasons?

Summary: Its a Chiyu morning and she is up early and out the door for her morning run. Nodoka is working to do the same watches from afar as Chiyu zooms by. At school Nodoka and Hinata watch as Chiyu makes her jumps at practice when mr Paparazzi appears to question if Chiyu will make it in the next tournament, showing off his pictures of her jump. When Chiyu approaches the three, Hinata sissifies the reporter by slamming him into the fense, while NodoHina try and laugh off looking at the pictures. Chiyu takes a quick look and then goes for another jump, this time failing to everyone's dismay. That evening Pegi expresses his concern for Chiyu's intensity, but she blows him off. Next more morning Nodoka is there as Chiyu is about to go for her run, offering a partner for a change, only for Hinata to show up late wanting to do the same. The girls pause their run for a long sit at the beach where Chiyu explains her enjoyment of the high jump stemming from an intense experience at sea as a young girl. Working to swim in the sky. Its a wonderful convo until Hinata realizes they are all late. That Sunday Chiyu heads for more running and Pegi is at his wits end and begins searching FairiesMD for the "Yips" a downward spiral of realizing you are in a slump making you more in a slump. Pegi runs to the other girls finding them making a banner to push Chiyu on. At the Tourney, the banner is revealed just before Chiyu's run, but then Daruizen attacks. With the low turnout thanks to Covid, the area is cleared quickly and the Cures get to work dealing with a well equipped MoTW. There is no good direction to attack from as its icewall is too much. But its just a wall and Fontaine merely jumps over it to clean the MoTW up. Afterwards as NodoHina get the latest bottle, Chiyu sneakily moves forward to do her jump. The girls tackle Chiyu in celebration of getting out of her slump.

Obviously they'd have a few episode completed by Jan 1st, and they seem to only complete an episode maybe a week before it airs; if they are lucky. not in the way you're thinking. there's a lead-in time for TV and an even longer one for something animated. if the show was put on hiatus around episode 12 then there wouldn't be much of a chance to change things in episode 8 or 9. I don't know if they ever said anything officially but it stands to reason they made the call to put production on hold early on and burned through what they already had. If Covid affected anything in-show you wouldn't expect to see it until the return and honestly I doubt you'd see anything significant outside of some voiceover line changes until the next batch after whatever they were working on when production halted.
Now I do have a theory or two about some things that changed due to covid namely the byougens not being redeemed or given a chance to reform like most precure villains but it wouldn't be anything like the battle scenes being shorter in the first handful of episodes.

I did have a small epiphany this episode as I realized that Hinata might have some intelligence to her. She seems to be thinking the same things as Nodoka and Chiyu at any given time, but its like there's lag.
