What's your favorite manga that will never get an anime, and why? Mine is Wadatsumi, it won't because it's too old and obscure.

I don't want my favorite manga to get anime because I like them as manga. Adaptations are better for middling source material because sometimes they can get new life under a decent director.

a lot of my favourite manga laready had anime adaptations, it's just that they're pretty lackluster or unfinished, so probably nothing more is going to happend to them - blame, houseki no kuni, alita, tbna etc. i'm mostly bummed about upotte, cause the anime is extremely shit honestly.

also some of the other stuff i liked won't ever get adapted because it's not a cgdct slop , isekais or whatever the fuck is popular right now - usuzumi no hate, anything nihei, mugen no juunin, hito hitori futari, museum, soil(well, it got a drama....)
i kinda wish someone adapted ponkotsu ponko but at the same timei don't, cause i know they will fuck it up for sure

That's actually a lesser concern for me, although I certainly have seen that phenomenon in action. It's more that I've come to see adaptations in general as a crapshoot, so if a manga is great there's a greater chance of it being botched in animation (especially if it has difficult to animate art or aesthetics). I'm more likely to check out an anime if it's based on something I'm not already reading, which means I'm prone to being an animeonly myself.

Bastard kinda doesn't count because it already had an OVA, but nobody expected it to get another anime after a long while, so nothing is impossible

Soil is really cool. I think it has the potential for a live action adaptation that gets global acclaim, but it's a long story, very ugly, and the main characters are super unappealing at a surface level, so an adapation worth caring about just isn't happening

Novel adaptation about of a story about furries, mesoamerican revolutionaries, cyborgs, corporations, mercenaries and new Guinea voodoo magic. Not sure which studio would be up to it.
I'm fine with it not getting an anime, i'm very content with Sei Itoh's rendition of the story.

Aiki is based as fuck but will never get an adaptation because the MC is a scumbag.

A Les Miserables manga was storied timed here not long ago. It really wouldn't work in Japanese, so it really wouldn't work as an anime, but otherwise it would be just about perfect for it, so it's a shame. The whole point of an anime would be to add audio, so if you can't get the right audio, there's no point.

I agree. I think the key thing is the audio. A great manga doesn't gain as much from the addition of audio as it does lose in the transfer, where as a middling manga can gain a lot from the addition of audio and has less to lose.
That Les Miserables manga is a special case, I think, of a great manga that would still gain more from the addition of audio than it would lose in adaptation, but for the same reasons that it gets to be that special case, it wouldn't work as an anime in actuality.

It already has a live action adaptation iirc but I dont know if it has an English sub available. Also, Atsushi Kaneko has a very unique style among mangakas that would probably make it difficult to adapt to animation, it's very western comic-booky

A lot of my favorite manga are things tha were already done dirty on tv, like Getter G, Houshin Engi, Kekkaishi, Gash Bell, or that would've been done dirty like Psycho Staff. Then there's Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, which is way better than the anime source, and will never be anime.

I loved this series, though I never actually finished it when it came out of hiatus for the final arc, so I don't know how it ends. I read it like a decade ago so maybe it's more shit than I remember, but back then I fucking loved the idea of battle of wits stories, and this was always the peak for me. I did go on to become a massive Kaiji fan, and ultimately I think Kaiji's better, but this remains the undefeated king (as far as I know) in terms of complex strategy and mind games. I doubt it'll get an anime adaptation however because it doesn't have a whole lot else going for it. Though it did get a J-drama adaptation of the first few arcs (which I also didn't finish), so what do I know.

Probably this. It's one of the only manga I've reread, especially more than once. It's nice without being too contrived, for what it is, yet has drama without being too bogged down in it. Things don't feel too unearned and it just feels very earnest and is enjoyable to read.
It's also one of those manga that makes you want to be a parent.

A full adaptation of Nausicaa. It's sad because Anno was pestering Miyazaki for years to let him make it and Miyazaki kept telling him no.
Then Miyazaki finally said he could do it and Anno was just all "Nah, I'm living good off my Eva wank bank."

Shamo was my favourite for a long time but it's too edgy and well drawn for anime nowadays. I prefer it this way as a modern Shamo anime would get extremely censored and be animated purely with CGI.

That fucking sucks. There is NEVER going to be a modern opportunity for someone to adapt the full manga the way it deserves. The manga has so many cool designs I'd love to see animated.
