Even if the manga can't gather new readers it is still making profit because of the huge amount of NPCs who still consume that slop.
That being said what I find particularly awful is how Kishimoto's legacy is completely dead and buried at this point.
Naruto is over, his attempt at a new IP (Samurai 8) flopped extremely hard, and now that is back with Boruto the numbers can't stop going down.
What does he have left at this point? He even went as far as to say that Ikemoto is the one writing Boruto to try save face.
