I would really recommend getting good sculpts unless it's small prize or gatcha figures where it's super cheap that it doesn't matter. for 20k+ scales just get the ones that look good to you.

I suspect its like regularly toy production, where you try to limit the amount, paint, finishes, assembly processes, etc. as much as possible. If most of your figure is in a white gown, then best to use white plastic and single out the parts of the figure that aren't white. And then the ones you can't single out then try to break them apart as efficiently as possibly with mold breaks, etc. I'm not in the toy industry, but I watch videos about people who have been and why they made certain design decisions. It seems to make sense. Make the figure look nice, but be as efficient as possible to produce it. If you can make it using 10 pieces versus 12, then go for 10 pieces. How much paint is allowed? It depends on the budget given. How big? Budget restrictions again. There's some algorithm they surely use to determine all that based on their own sales data.

Buying a figure from a series because you feel obligated as a fan must be tough. You get tired of it and forget why you liked it because of your ever growing taste.

OCs and dickbuys on the other hand, is the purest appreciation of the female form untainted by FOMO.

This warrants a documentary even more. As someone who has painted figs their entire life I know how hard it is. The level of detail of the figs ITT is amazing, and most aren't a one time thing, which makes it even harder.
