Once Doki decided to push the yuribait levels into overdrive and Maho decided to do it again, yuribait definitely became ingrained into the franchise to the point where even the most het seasons still tended to have substantial yuribait. The only season that tries to explain what Precure actually means (in the context of its own universe) is Star Twinkle, and you could argue the same explanation works well enough for every season. Basically, Precure stands for the Precure's ability to "Cure" people whose thoughts have become too corrupt or twisted by reverting them to a "Pre"vious state. You could argue all Cures tend to revert things back to a previous state, even with the ones that have to deal with object-based MotW.
