I just had an idea that's probably really terrible.
So there's this manga that I guess is at least kinda obscure, since I don't think it's ever been translated, and it's only two volumes (because it got cancelled, and I don't know if there were any chapters after the ones in volume 2 since I can barely find any information about it) and I COULD take pictures of the pages make a thread where I post them.
An untranslated amateur storytime.
I won't be able to understand a whole lot of it, but I do know some things about the plot since I've seen the middle and end of the live action movie that I think goes past where volume 2 ends, so I can probably explain a few things some of the time if I actually go through with this.
So, how retarded is this idea of mine?
Also, I wouldn't do this for at least a month after the Gantz storytime is finished, because I have shit to do. And I don't expect anyone to actually want me to do this thing.

I don't know how good it is, but what about the Muvluv manga? 17 volumes. Death in battle porn alien invasion in which the Earth is absolutely irrecoverably fucked, protags are fighting only on a hope of a miracle. Sort of like the Gantz invasion arc except without Independence Day weaknesses to exploit.

I haven't played Alyx so I dunno if it contradicts it, but Epistle 3 suggests they have a dyson sphere. Thankfully there wasn't much to discuss in these chapters but
Reika's death was completely pointless and terribly handled. If the team had fought the big alien they would have slaughtered it with no casualties. Giving K2 this crisis of identity out of nowhere made no sense because he had that crisis on Earth, when he was cloned, and then it got resolved when he met up with K1 and they had a "dude bro we get to fuck both of the best girls, rock on!" moment. Then he fucked Reika and that should have been that - he got to slam hot, brilliant, strong, idolpussy with zero ethical hangups. But no, he threw that away because... saving hundreds or thousands of people with his team wasn't enough for him to live up to the expectations of K1, who spent that same time flirting with a horsehag and crying.

To the anon confused about the mech scaling, the gantztech robots appear to be the same one that Oka used in Osaka - they're the same size as the alien mechs , which would be the same scale on Earth. As for why they tower over the alien skyscrapers, that just doesn't make any sense at all but it does make for a better shot.

Yeah dying to a 20-point CGI alien was an incredibly lame way to go, the whole scenario was super-forced to get that outcome and for no specific reason. If there was some sort of plot reason for her to die, okay -- for example, what if the aliens used her as leverage against k2 telling him they can revive her and creating a real conflict of interest in the minds of the readers. Or k2 becomes desperate and fights k1 to be the only k and take Tae, or even just to commit suicide and take himself off the field. Just killing her for shock value was a trash move and a terrible mistake.

To add to what some of you guys were saying the previous thread, K2 story line needed a more personal stake and a clearer goal. Besides the filler-ish action, K2 never gets to redeem himself. The room of truth should have been earned, not given away the way it did. Maybe turns out the god aliens were just providing gantz with some sort of API and they restricted its use when katastrophe started. K2 wants them to revive everyone but they are being petty. they pull the same sadistic trick and K2 explodes again, but this time Kato remembers his exchange with Nurarihyon and prostrates in front of them like " I feel that I am in God's presence".

I'm a huge Reikachad and I agree with most of what you said, but I actually think the scene where K2 mourns her death was at pretty well done in the sense that it conveyed our boy's raw sorrow. It's everything that lead to it that felt incredibly forced, but I'm not about to complain about killing off characters in a story like this. Also no, the mechs they're using now have a slightly different design than Oka's version, and they're massively bigger. At least 10x as tall as the one we saw in Osaka.

Sure fine, but that scene could have been placed after a meaningful death. It was also unnecessary, because prior to K2's little "I need to prove myself" hissy fit, there was no real doubt that K2 loved her. Kurono had always had feelings for Reika but held them back because he was with Tae. This was never up for debate. K2 wasn't with Tae, so he had no reason to be dishonest about his feelings.
"I said mean things to make you retreat to safety" is fine but the enemy was so weak that the retreat is what got her killed.
It's just a stupid fucking death.

I'm not convinced that this is true. The Earth invasion alien mechs were the same size as the Oka mech was, and we never got a truly clear shot of the Oka mech because it was only shown at night. The Oka mech and these mech have the same jobber-suit control system. I think they're the same exact thing and Oku just threw caution to the wind with regards to scale with the rest of the city.

Tbf, I already own one because of another collection. As for the face, you make a good point. The Z gun one looks almost nothing like her, but I guess it's modeled after her Gantz O movie design.

Like I said, I wasn't disputing that the events getting there were written properly, just that the scene itself with Kurono grieving for Reika was effective. We saw it right next to ordinary buildings and it wasn't even bigger than that. These ones dwarf literal skyscrapers made for 30 ft tall giants. Another thing is that it was fighting that Ox spider monster thing and they were roughly the same size. We got a clear visual of that monster multiple timea and it wasn't even that much bigger than the Nurarihyon's giant forms or his lieutenants. It'd say the Oka version was like 60 ft talk tops.

Oku is sloppy about lots of stuff, but he's used to drawing with digital tools as a base so I doubt he'd make a mistake that large with regards to scale.

Besides, the complaints didn't start or will end with Reika's death. Some people can get annoying posting about it, but anons have been having issues since the "final phase" started because the truth is, a lot of those issues are real and very noticeable. The extra bad cgi, plot points that go nowhere, a lot of filler pages and chapters, characters acting OOC, confusing action etc. All of those are there, and people have the arcs of the manga where those either didn't exist or were much less visible fresher in their memory.

Cherry is definitely dying. That’s the reason why he killed the one good alien bystander in the entire manga, to show his fall to villainy and his ultimate death. He could have been shown the usual alien cruelty, but no, for Cherry alone he to run into the kindly grandma who wanted to feed him instead of eating him. Oku did that scene on purpose to establish Cherry as bad, and then putting him in the giant mech was like a guarantee that he’s going to die.

Cherry was shown the one nice grandmother and not the countless man-eaters for s reason; Oku wanted to make it clear that Cherry has fallen, hence his intense internal moral dilemma showing his good and rational side desperately trying to hold him back. Why shouldn’t he feel perfectly justified in slaughtering these fucks is what some of you are thinking — to which I say, because that’s how JP moral law works. BTW this is also the reason why there are no aliens trying to protect the humans from wanton cruelty like alien PETA, normie-types protesting the death circus, things like that. i saw a lot of things with storytime thread comments that i didn't when i read it myself the first time. gantz really does have a lot of great things. really has its finger on the pulse with fag bullies, idiot boomers, i didn't remember at all the pissing scene from the previous thread but it makes sense. a 'things women will never understand', only it's not a duel to the death which plenty of stories have, but the other thing that's way more common in real life that no other story does.
reika's pretty good too, though i still feel the picture isn't complete. she's 'ride or die', but in what way and why? you could say tae is loyal in the same way, but since she has no abilities she mostly wanders around crying. saeko was kendo captain and lara had kickboxing. reika being an idol doesn't line up with her unspecified fighting prowess. she went from doing nothing on the dino mission to "kurono i love you", to ???, then as competent second in command. ok now that i write it out i get it. i had to write it out though, to notice the reika development time was eaten up by izumi before and vampires after.

i think it's a sequencing matter. writing impact means contrast means opposites next to each other. the clarity and polarity of kurono's determination is possible because it's interlaced with tv boomers and whatsherface "don't you like me" and inaba and izumi and nishi. if everyone shown was working towards the same thing but in different ways the total picture would be saying something different. imagine if instead of two volumes of fighting in a recreational hunting zone that looks like abandoned buildings saving civilians, we got two volumes of working with americans to reach and destroy the space creation device.
you could run it the other direction too. this one actually happened: kurono tried to kill gantz, therefore he was put on a solo mission ("you must kill everyone"). he failed, then the alien came after him and was killing everyone in sight. how did this sequence end? kurono used tae as bait. the alien realizes he's been shot but instead of finishing off tae he just stands there and then dies. and then kurono gets taepussy as a reward for.. using her as bait? it doesn't make sense morally. it makes plenty sense as escalation setup: kurono is now like aliens (has a reason to live in dangerous world), and someone else succeeds at his mission in his place (izumi in shinjuku)
