in the anime Rudy is a heartless creep who feels no remorse for his actions and from what I've heard he just stops, but in the light novels he actively tries to stop and struggles immensely and feels bad for his previous, and current actions, and he eventually becomes a better person and builds the family he should have built in the first life.
