to (not) Re:watch
How often do you rewatch stuff /a/. I am now old enough that some of the things I have watched is over 25 years ago. I have watched so much that the lines start to blur. I saw a thread recently about kill la kill, and realized I couldn't remember much about other than the global outline. Other than lelouch, yuffie and C2 I can't name a single CG character. I can picture the moomins and Alfred J Kwak, but I for the life of me can't remember what happens in them.
I recently put on a oldish anime, and realized 4 episodes in that I had in fact already seen it. Sometimes I think I am developing fucking dementia.

usually I only rewatch stuff if I'm watching it with a friend who hasn't seen it before

You guys never forget stuff though? Or do you just accept that as par for the course?

I generally try to avoid it, with films being the only exception
There are plenty of anime that I've still left to watch and it seems like a waste to not watch something new instead of rewatching something where I already know what to expect. If I really want to re-experience a work, I'll usually just go to the source material (manga, VN, etc). I don't know if this is even the right attitude to have towards an artistic medium

I've seen Akira and ghibli movies a few times
I have never watched an anime TV show a second time

Well now that you mention them, ye, but I couldn't just name them by myself.

No

Wouldn't that attitude be directly related to the quality then? Wouldn't you be more inclined to rewatch something of high quality rather than, e.g. shin chan episode no.36?

Could you accurately recall and take part in a discussion about an old anime then? E.g. full metal panic, assuming you watched it back then, could you now just join in a thread about that if it was made, without just shitposting vague memes? Because I couldn't without rewatching.

This, I feel, is a not insignificant reason behind a lot of shitposts. People have seen a show so long ago that for all intents and purposes it is like they haven't seen it at all, all they remember are memes, the reaction images from threads back when it aired and anything that managed to seep its way into anime or /a/ culture. So these people don't take part in any discussion and will instead just shitpost the memes, you know for sure every Eva thread has fags posting asuka vs rei shit without even remembering what happened during the runtime of the show.

>Wouldn't you be more inclined to rewatch something of high quality rather than, e.g. shin chan episode no.36?
It depends
Something like Legend of the Galactic Heroes is fantastic, but it's over a 100 episodes long. At an episode a day, it would take me close to 4 months to rewatch
I also believe that a lot of times, people rewatch something either for nostalgia purposes or because they don't have the "energy" to try something new
Weirdly enough, I have a different attitude towards stuff like comedy cartoons, like the Simpsons or Futurama, although I think that's partially due to watching them on the telly growing up while doing something else (playing games, using the computer) at the same time as well as the dense layer of jokes, meaning that you'd never remember all of the jokes in a single episode after just a single viewing
I think if I was more interested in animation or directing, I'd get a lot more out of watching a film/series more than once, or if I had people who were more actively involved in deep discussions of a series's themes/characters. I still have a large backlog of things that I want to get through as well

Last time I watched Evangelion was when End of Evangelion got released in the US and I can remember the personal drama between the characters, but not the actual plot involving the angels.

I re-watch a couple of my favourites, occasionally.
I've also re-watched S1 of some anime that have gotten new seasons in the meantime, if there's been some time inbetween.
Many seasonal anime are just a blur after a while. Some anons seem to recall details where I barely remember what it was about, which makes me if my memory is crap or whether they just liked it more, watched it more than once, or just more intently or whatever.

all the angels have already been killed by end of eva, other than the evangelion units, rei, and humanity itself.

Wait, so when I rewatch something or watch and old show for the first time and then make a thread about it here, none of fuckers who reply to my thread have actually seen it recently and are simply going of 10+ year old memories? This actually explains so much.

I rewatch or reread some favorites every other year. That's about it. It helps with time management that I drop shit I pick up without a second thought no matter at what point I am, even with only one episode or volume left. If I lose interest, that's that.

I've been watching anime for around 35+ years and have multiple terabytes of it on external storage. Of the anime I watch, I'd say around 20% of it is a rewatch. Nowadays though, it's got to be a pretty good show for me to bother with it, whereas I used to be happy to rewatch any old series.

I tried to re warch re:zero. Impossible. The only thing that kept me from gouging my eyes was the mystery. Once you know its impossible to contain your annoyance of subaru talking.

I rewatch a anime usually every 8 years

I don't really rewatch stuff. But I'm getting to the point where I may as well start doing that soon if I get bored of new shows and just to get a more mature and different perspective now that I'm older. Stuff like higurashi, future diary, sao, etc. is still in my head from like ages ago and my brain was wired different then.

I've rewatched FLCL a couple times 15 years ago because it's so short but otherwise I'll only rewatch specific parts that I really like, though I don't go out of my way to do that.

After around 5 years I've basically forgotten everything but the most memorable characters and plot twists of anime I watch. That's for the ones I like, the others I completely forget about before the year is over.

The exception is when there is regular discussion on /a/, it helps jog my memory. I remember most of One Piece for example.

Anyway, I only rewatch my absolute favorites when I feel like it and if at least five years have passed since the last rewatch.
