Photography is as expensive as you want to make it. There is the base cost for a decent sensor, a decent lens and some basic accessories like SD cards, bag, straps, filters and caps etc., but really anyone can easily get into photography for <1000$, as long as they don't expect to be getting natgeo award winning wildlife action shots right of the bat. Despite this that board will spend inordanate amounts of time obsessing over lensen (glass) and novelty cameras. most notably Leica because it is entirely "hand made". This is comparable to obsessing over filetypes and codecs you see here on /a/ at times and "folded 10000 times Nippon steel!".
The one person who can of course buy this type of stuff to then never use it, is the stereotypical dentist. The dentist with a shelf full of leica cameras that never get used, that is what every /po/ shitposter aspires to be.
