Battle harems were never profitable, at least not at hte level they wanted. Everybody was trying to chase Infinite Stratos succes but the vast majority of them flopped. There's honestly only so many ways you can do the battle harem in a high school premise. The industry put too many of them out too fast.

Isekai (unfortunately) does everything they wanted to push with battle harems and actually sells better even if its trash so it's remained 'the otaku trend' for like 10 years

There's Nue's Exorcist that's probably going to get an anime.

Why are you retards trying to console war with battle harems and iskeai? As if there isn't a lot of similarities between the two and that people who grew up with the former didn't end up getting into the later.

Date a Live V is an anomaly, Spirit Pledge + Kurumi merch carried the anime funding. I do still think its possible we can get another season of DXD from Passione but only time will tell, DXD merch sells like crazy still in jp so its still popular just its up to Kadokawa and Ishibumi. Mato Seihei is probably the current savior of the genre since its very popular in Japan, the manga is ongoing and the second season will be made by Passione which should knock it out of the park. Infinite Stratos is dead, merch gets made still but Yumizuru basically gave up on finishing it due to writers block; it could come back one day but for now its dead. Mahouka is still going so thats good. Strike the Blood finished, Shinmai testament also finished but the anime never adapted everything, no clue what happened to trinity Seven. Rakudai's light novel was fully completed and well recieved, the english translation is still catching up though. Rakudai I think getting another season would be great but theres no more source material to promote due to its completion. Sekirei is done, To love ru got axed. I think the genre is completely dead purely because of Mato Seihei and Date a Live (maybe dxd too if they'd make another season). The other anons are right that iseki basically replaced the battle harem genre for a lot of otaku in Japan. It has the harems and romance with bishoujos + the powers except now the writer can just isekai into whatever world they want the mc in to not follow any semblance of reality.

They still have around 30+ volumes to adapt for new source material from DXD, it sells like hotcakes too and Passione would absolutely animate it, so I am somewhat confused on why we dont have a new season yet. All I can guess is that Kadokawa is sitting on it.

Although most ironically, the isekai that tend to be closest to battle harems are villainess isekai, as the villainesses go to the magic academy and meet a bunch of hot studs who could technically all fight, but are quickly outclassed by the villainess, and the villainess tends to somehow favor the heroine anyway.

Isekai will genuinely never die, because the desire to be thrown into a different world where you get to live an awesome life is too great to ever go away. Plus, the advantage of isekai is that the protagonist doesn't have to be a 12/10 ultrachad with 5000 IQ, but could actually be "You", the generic average person guy (Japanese Millennial, soon to be Japanese Zoomer, replaced by Japanese Alpha and then Beta generation).
For the genre to drop in popularity, something really drastic has to happen in the real world, like an actual world war where the survivors would then make stories about surviving said war.
Or aliens making contact with humanity, and all fiction now being focused on how contact will change society.
