Do Japanese people really scream when they wake up from a nightmare?

Have you really had a nightmare if it wasn't scary enough to cause you to scream?

I don't see why not. I wake up from dreams laughing or painfully horny sometimes.

It happened to me at least twice that I woke up from something creepy and way before I got to take over the driving seat my body farted while I was waking up.

I have nightmares often, all very surreal and nonsensical, but very vivid. They dont bother me, but no joke, I had a very short nightmare about a week ago that made me scream at the top of my lungs when I woke up, and made me shut my eyes and not move a muscle for a solid 2 minutes. I was in a fight or flight response or something. I've had sleep paralysis once before I think, but this couldn't have been that because I screamed. I was just paralysed by fear. Funny thing is, is that the dream itself was really uninteresting and predictable by my own standards.

I know no one gives a shit but I want to just make a note of this somewhere: I also saw something like an after image while my eyes were closed. Like when you look at a bright light and then close your eyes, you can see the shape of whatever it was you were looking at. I could see something like that, of like half a dozen sets of clenched dog/wolf teeth overlapping one another, fading in and out before it subsided. The dream itself was basically just about a female grim reaper floating up a flight of stairs towards me, but the experience after I woke up was freaky.
Anyway please ignore my dogshit posts, thank you.

this happens to me all of the time and i actually enjoy it. its so refreshing to wake up, alive, and safe. i think that 'afterimage' you mentioned is what people are talking about when they say 'sleep paralysis demon', when you wake up, your brain is still flooded with dopamine and some of the more vivid images from your dream leak into your reality for a few seconds

From the moment I'm in my room I'm screaming spastically, and once I wake up I'm screaming spastically again. Doesn't matter if it's a nightmare or not.

But I haven't hade any dreams that I can remember in the past 2 years.

I've written a couple down myself. There's such a small time frame from when you wake up until you forget completely that you essentially have to get up and immediately start writing. You'd be surprised how long you can focus on it and how many details you can remember once you start writing. The hardest part is forcing yourself out of bed to pick up a pencil.

That has happened to me before in my lifetime. The ones that got me good:
>dream of a witch was breaking into my bedroom trying to kill me
>dream about being chased down and caught by three fast zombies in a wasteland
>dream about a giant kaiju alien staring and bellowing at me while everyone in my family and neighborhood is missing and sirens are going off

Why was the grim reaper female, you think? Can we get some dream analysts opinion?

It's not the nightmare but the lack of oxygen.
I woke up like that and was gasping for air, I stopped breathing in my sleep for some reason.

Well, it didn't have fat tits or anything.
Basically, I was dreaming about some other random shit, but then towards the very end it turned i to a nightmare. I was laying down on a sofa on the upstairs landing in some nice rental home I'd never been in before. My dog is sat on the floor next to me and, even though I can't see him, I know that hes scared. We're both looking at this stairwell in the corner of the room, and the room is very dark but you can still just about see, like outside on a full moon. Suddenly this ghostly figure silently floats up the stairs, turns at the top and heads towards me, quickly but calmly. It's basically a figure (presumably a woman because it was skinny) draped load of blue fabric, like layers and layers of fabric, and its all torn and its floating as if this thing was underwater. I can't see it's face, instead it just has a black void underneath its hood. It grabs my head and presses my face into its head-void, and then I woke up terrified. For a good two minutes I couldn't open my eyes because I thought I would die if I did.

IAs for what it means? I have a lump on my ribs that has appeared out of nowhere the past 6 months, and I went to see a doctor about it a few weeks ago, but my country's health service can be completely useless at times so I still haven't gotten a concrete answer about what it is. Maybe I'm afraid about finding out its a tumour or something, it certainly felt like I'd been visited by death. That's the first time I've ever dreamt about something resembling the grim reaper too.

Happened to me once, it was a dream that "ended" with me being choked to death, I woke up with my entire neck red, crazy shit but not my worst nightmare sadly, I don't know why the fuck I have so many lucid dreams and 99% of them are nightmares.

I used to wake up screaming from vivid dreams as a kid where I would drive a car off a cliff, often with my little sister in the passenger seat. Kinda like this:

I’ve had two dreams where I couldn’t breathe in them and had to take deep breaths when I woke up. One was when my mouth was melded shut like in the Matrix and another was when a girl choked me because I thought she stole my phone.

It happened to me once in my life. I had taken a ton of drugs a few months prior and it gave me a bad trip. For the next year, along with depression, I had awful dreams, and one time I did wake up yelling.

I usually have dreams that are like movies. And in my latest I was protagonist trapped in movie/tv themed worderland world. For most of dream I tryed get out of that worderland, but I ended being betrayed by Johny Depp who lured me deeper into worderland world instead of helping me get out. And after giving up, I woke up.

I only really remember two nightmares from the last years. In one I watch a bear walking 90° from me, and then I do something stupid, I think take a picture, and hear him roar. I run away and get my side gored, then wake up completely frozen up with my side tingling and thinking "god what a stupid thing to do, good that that was a dream."
The other was my mom trying to kill me, which instantly convinced me that it must be a dream, leading to my first lucid dream. Ended when I got killed by another "lucid dreamer".
