>>281367257> Kinnikuman Nisei has a little under 3,000 tagged works> A literal third of those are KevinIt really puts into perspective how popular Kevin is in the context of Nisei and how much it's due to fujos: Mantaro has about 500 tagged works but a lot of it are either solo art or with Rinko, while works featuring Kevin are overwhelmingly Kevin/Warsman (Chloe) and Kevin/Mars.
Other characters like Mars also have a higher proportion of ship art, but their overall numbers are lower than Kevin's - Mars is a close contender at 600 or so works, Jade is at a little under 400.
With Warsman sitting at a not too shabby 1,800 works out of roughly 20,000 for OG/Revival Kinnikuman and how linked his character is to Kevin's, it's no surprise that not only Kevin performed extremely well in popularity polls but that he also remains decently popular despite not having actually featured in anything for years.
>>281366590Thanks OP despite all the rage and everything I did enjoyed the Olympics arc or mayb just enjoyed reading it here
I just caught up
Damn he really just fucking wrecked him lmao
>>281366261One thing I've always hated about the translation is that it makes it sound like "Akuma Shogun" is a proper name. It's pretty clear in Japanese that "akuma shogun" is just his title/rank. Because he's the shogun of the akuma chojin. His real name is Goldman or whoever else happens to take the mantle.
Poor Mantaro, forcibly changed into an orangutan on live television
>>281367983Aluma Shogun is his new name as the Lord of evil, just like how The Man became Strong the Budo.
You wouldn't translate Budo as "powerful the battle man" just because it wasn't his original name. Therefore it's best just to leave Aluma Shogun how it is. Assumed identities shouldn't be translated
What manga are we reading? Are we reading Kinnikuman or are we reading "Muscular Man"
>>281366328He's a boomer who project Suguru and Terry onto their sons
>>281368334Technically, Strong the Budo was just a false identity. The Man "real" 2nd name was Choujin Enma
Kevin is my true hero
Mantaro is a loser who regresses every match
Man thinking about it, a story about someone like Robin Mask who had so much respect and adoration that he believed everything he did was Justice, fighting against someone like Ricardo who was shunned for being a Devil in spite of trying to be a better person probably could have made for a really good story.
https://youtu.be/yC7tV4H_hAc?si=1ukXB5rV2AV00mVu
Rewatching this scene makes me really wonder what the hell could have happened in those following years.
>>281365924>chojin priestMaybe Ataru still has his priest clothes somewhere.
>>281368940if anyone just said "i believe in you ricardo you can be a justice chojin" he could've easily switched sides
>>281369242You could give the Terryman train spot to him and have the people he saved recognize his heroism where the superficial masses shun him. It sucks because I know that Yudetamago are entirely capable of writing that, they just havenโt remembered how to in this part of the run.
>>281366542Never forget that Meat and Mantaro are the technically the same age.
>>281367257I'm already versed at this.
I can see what they were going for with Kevin asking Chloe why he was helping like when Warsman couldn't understand why Suguru would risk the throne for his sake, but having Kevin develop a belief in friendship as a result just doesn't fucking work when the person in question is telling him to kill the son of someone who's supposed to be his friend.

After a match ends, justice choujins no longer harbor any resentment towards their opponent. Regardless of what has happened inside of the ring, even if the result was death, this ideal should be upheld. So the Kevin hate is silly.

It's weird that throughout the manga we barely see Robin. We never get his side of the story when it comes to Kevin.
>>281371349Fiona is so lucky
>>281371556I still think Robin would have straight murdered Warsman for setting up the whole tragedy if Kevin actually did kill Mantaro
>>281371233The kids specifically mocked the way Warsman bled red blood instead of oil after they hit him with rocks. It wasn't just because he was ugly.

>>281365751 (OP)The Ruralman did nothing wrong. Mantaro was always ignoring him or needing to be babysitted (literally sometimes). It's actually weird how he always has to be told how to get out of holds.
Finally caught up with the last few volumes and I've come to say that Ricardo did nothing wrong
>>281374174True, but Mantaro and Ruralman had a conflict of personalities. Ruralman didn't waste energy unless it was to tell Mantaro to switch moves. Mantaro does badly with a second like that. He needs one like Meat or Terry the Kid to wrangle him. Mantaro was actually trying to slow down and trust Ruralman, but Ruralman's taciturn style was too much.
>>281365751 (OP)Let's say this group fights the Demon Seed instead, keeping the final fight as The Young Masters vs The Demolitions, who would fight who?
>>281374174guy had to be a second for first time in a fucking final he did the best he could
At their core, the olympics just fail to please anyone: if you liked Warsman in the original run you're not going to be satisfied because his behavior with Kevin is contrary to basically everything his character went through and it's never explained why HE would be the one so violently concerned with the legacy of Robin's family. If you're in this camp, later appearances just make it worse rather than fix it, because Warsman comes across as frankly obsessed with the Robin family instead of having a genuine, heartfelt bond guiding his actions. You can't go "ah, he cares so much he's kept watch all this time" about a guy pushing Kevin to literal murder, Kevin becoming a better person is almost entirely incidental to him becoming a champion.
I'm in the minority that actually likes the whole thing on account of Kevin being my favorite character from Nisei and I'm willing to do mental gymnastics to justify why Kevin would look back fondly onto his time with Warsman instead of feeling betrayed at basically being gaslit for months (I think Chloe was exactly the type of coach Kevin needed), but again, we're told nothing. And then it goes on to have no emotional pay off because the manga ends with Warsman still unconscious/dead. If we're meant to think that Warsman's actions were all in service of Kevin's growth and the manga ends with Kevin having made friends and finally feeling like he's a true justice chojin, why don't we get to see him show it off to the man who we're told kickstarted that change??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUhj5XeXEng
I think they were trying for a Goku at the Budokai thing were he doesn't win in Dragon Ball, but it doesn't land right.
They way I would have done it if I had to have Kevin win would be a double KO, and the three judges, in a split decision, rule Kevin the winner. This way neither Mantaro or Kevin really feel like they won or lost, setting up a rematch.
The thing is, like I said, Mantaro needs to lose because otherwise the lesson won't stick
Just look at how he mostly resets at the start of the Replacement, No Respect and Olympics arcs and compare to how it mostly sticks through the Demon Seed arc and specially when he begins mentoring Chaos in UTag
The problem is that Kevin and specially Warsman become psychos for that match so it's hard to buy Kevin's "I don't wanna be an asshole anymore" moment with the Belt
Still, beyond their attitudes I mostly enjoy the match and it has some really nice moments like the moments where Mantaro and Ruralman actually manage to work as Wrestler and Coach and No Respect's spirits(?) showing up to cheer on Mantaro
And I can excuse Warsman as what happens when nobody keeps in contact with him to make sure he doesn't backslide in his development
>>281377175I guess if it's any consolation Mantaro doesn't buy it either initially.
>>281377175>The problem is that Kevin and specially Warsman become psychos for that match so it's hard to buy Kevin's "I don't wanna be an asshole anymore" moment with the BeltI think what needed to be done was for Kevin not to have actually murdered anyone prior to the match, so that the final vs Mantaro is Warsman pushing Kevin to his absolutely lowest to prove a point about Kevin not being that kind of man despite how much he pretended to be.
So, the Revival explained Chloe, but will it explain whatever the fuck Warsman was thinking with the teddy bear thing?
>>281377760I don't think even he knows what he was thinking.
>>281377760Bears are cute and as we've learnt, cute is justice.
>>281374174 If anything it's proof that not everyone can be someone's second. Mantaro ignored him for the first quarter of the fight that is true. But he decided to start trusting him after getting knocked out of the ring.
But after all of that, Ruralman looked like he didnt care 80% of the time and was just chilling. That actually made Mantaro somewhat paranoid about the whole thing, leading to him using his finisher at the wrong time.
Mantaro didn't list at various moments but Ruralman failed to communicate and act like he gave a shit in the fight which leads to Mantaro not taking his advice.
>>281377586Itโs not that hard to envision really.
>Chloe tells Kevin to kill Mantaro by removing his mask>Kevin hesitates, recognizing that he doesnโt want to kill and outright refusing>Chloe demands to know why>Kevin says that heโs having fun fighting Mantaro and if it all ended here, so would that fun from having such a good match.>Kevin apologizes to Chloe for disobeying him but says itโs his decision.>Chloe congratulates Kevin for recognizing the same lesson that he learned back then when he fought Suguru in the Olympics>everyone gasps when they realize what that means, and Warsman reveals himself.>Mantaro and Kevin break for a bit, but then resume their fight with renewed passion, so even if Kevin wins, Mantaro feels strangely happy that their match isnโt about their family lineage but about two individuals that want to bring out the best in each other. You could even have Kevin sticking Mantaro in the OLAP and sweating so hard from the pressure of being told to kill his opponent that steam starts rising off of him to further the point. Augh, everythingโs so close to being good.
>>281381101>You could even have Kevin sticking Mantaro in the OLAP and sweating so hard from the pressure of being told to kill his opponent that steam starts rising off of him to further the point. Augh, everythingโs so close to being good. That's what's so frustrating, the parts of a good story are there, just buried in bad writing and constant piss and shit jokes.
>>281381236Mantaro says he lost the Olympics but won a new friend as Kevin shakes his hand and he celebrates, but then deep down you see Mantaro cry as heโs torn apart by his own desire to win the belt and the guilt of even having that thought when heโs been told that friendship is greater than any individual achievement, and he wracks his brain over that in the Demon Seed arc, aughhhhh
>>281381101It would tie amazingly with all the moments where Kevin asks Chloe why he has so much faith in him and Chloe doesn't answer, too. He does it... 2, 3 times? The manga as is has it be "because you're your father's son" and desu that kind of sucks for both of them, this way Kevin could reflect on their time together and realize Warsman knows firsthand what it's like to think of one self as a tool for violence and raise above that - so the legacy Warsman is passing onto him from Robin isn't just the OLAP, it's his entire journey with Robin (and Suguru!) towards being being a justice choujin.
I'm also bothered by Robin and Suguru watching this the whole time and just not doing anything.
From kevin and warsman's reasoning for going so hard, to Kevin trying to rip off Mantaro's mask so he has to kill himself. The two that could actually shed a lot of light on the past just don't do anything about a potential deathmatch between their sons at all.
>>281382197This could easily be fixed by giving one of "it's that chojin!" moments to them, out of all the dumb reasons for not intervening with the match I could buy them being aware that it's Warsman and them trusting that Warsman wouldn't actually get Kevin to kill Mantaro.
>>281382197Anime was them cheering for their respective son, so Robin was okay with Kevin killing Mantaro
>>281380960Ruralman was looking away to communicate "I already told you what to do, I'm not going to say it a second time, it's a waste of breath. Either you can listen properly the first time or you suffer". By looking away he was actively communicating that it's not time yet, and showing that he call and collected in order to convey to Mantaro that it's not that he's not paying attention, he wants you to understand patience. If Mantaro had listened to his advice at the start of the match the fight would have been heavily in Mantaro's favor.
Every time Mantaro didn't listen properly he suffered for it. Ruralman isn't the type to coddle him, he'll let him suffer until he learns to listen properly the first time.
Mantaro needed a babysitter and Kevin needed a second father figure, Meat and Warsman's success as their seconds had less to do with the coaching itself and more with getting them, respectively, to fight at all and to listen instead of being contrarian.
That's why Ruralman could get Mantaro to learn techniques Meat couldn't teach him, but he couldn't get him to be patient.
I finally caught up.
I'm sorry, Mantaro taking a shit and the average Swedish guy almost filtered me.
I don't know why I chose to pick up reading Nisei after not having the time for the good stuff, but it really doesn't inspire confidence in reading them.
Harabote and his family suddenly being fans of Mantaro was weird too considering the only reason the Olympics came back was so they could see him lose and possibly die.
Well that and the money. If anything they should have been glad and gloating that he lost. There was also Jackie suddenly hating how much of a bloodbath the match was despite craving it the whole time and even setting up the gimmick for the ricardo fight.
Honestly, I wonder how Nisei would have done if the internet was as big as it is now back then.
>>281383832First time reader here : I swear the other stuff is at least less whatever this is. I actually find it interesting to read it with the context of the whole series behind it, but even with everyone complaining about it during the OG and Revival storytimes it's absolutely brutal.
>>281383974Ikemen becomes surprisingly based by the time of UTag
>>281376488I love the bit where you see a silhouette of what is obviously Warsman and then it lights up to reveal Kevin.
It honestly feels like the lantern challenge should have come AFTER the Olympics.
It makes more sense, especially since the 3 people he fought felt way stronger/threatening then the gimmick fighters of the Olympics outside Kevin and MAYBE ricardo but that fight was ruined with the sword'n'board gimmick so I can't take it seriously either.
It gives Mantaro a better reason to want to gain strength instead of the arbitrary "you take too much damage" that we get told (he takes a lot of damage in the olyimpics and nobody says a peep. His whole "you take too much damage" is just a forgotten plot point after the lantern arc)
>>281384441Him pretending to be Great to cover for Chaos not being there was great. I bet if Mantaro does get with Jacqueline, he'd let Ikemen be a groomsman. I'd say best man, but that's gotta be Wally.
>>281384941I said something like that last thread, it just makes sense.
>DMP Arc as normal>Choujin Olympics arc, throw in the HF Replacement guys as the newcomers in the tournament. Kevin wins because Mantaro can't BIS as hard as Kevin can Maelstrom. Also let Mantaro's friends at least get a win against job fodder so they have SOMETHING>BIS Challenge arc with an actual motivation for Mantaro this time around. He stops being a fuckwad after this arc like how Suguru did after the Warsman fight.>throw some Devil Choujin arc here. Maybe not Demon Seed, since that arc's ending is a nice send off, but hell give us a canon Poison Six Pack arc, that was actually the highlight of the Nisei anime for me. All around good fights and gives Manta's friends a chance to not job.>Choujin Olympics 2. Mantaro wins this time by breaking out of the Big Ben Edge with his BIS and converting it into the Muscle Spark>Demon Seed. Mostly as is, but let both Mantaro and Kevin team up and shine in the final fightHope you enjoyed my fanfic.
>>281384929Not being able to rely on pure gore forced them to come up with some pretty interesting visuals.
>>281384978I knew he pretended to be Great III but I thought he'd be forced into it not be the one to come up with the idea
>>281385123If we're talking fanfics, mine would be throwing both the Poison Six Pack arc and adding extended versions of All-Out fights
During Kevin vs Doomman, he talks about how he promised to meet Mantaro in the final for a rematch and then throw a bunch of callbacks to the Olympics final
Ending with Kevin, about to pass out, going
>I'm sorry, Mantaro, it seems I won't be able to keep my promise...
I know we have the advantage of a couple of decades of hindsight, but damn if reading everyone's ideas doesn't make me annoyed. Making Nisei in the spirit of the original wouldn't even take changing THAT much.
>>281385123The Muscle Spark could also make for some family drama, maybe Mantaro wants to learn it as a super cool technique to beat Kevin Mask but Suguru rejects it, since it was a technique shaped by his friendship and Ataruโs selflessness for the sake of the clanโs future, making it inappropriate to be used for personal glory. You could even bring back the mural punishing him for misinterpreting the Muscle Spark, forcing him to either use it subconsciously during a time of crisis where he has to defeat an opponent without any malice in his heart, or carving his own path and learning a new technique he can call his own, aside from the Muscle Millennium.
>>281386412>learning a new technique he can call his own, aside from the Muscle Millennium.Well, he has one more, which we'll see in this arc
>>281386451Was ikemen this buff?
>>281386481shhhhhhhhhhh thatโs what i was hinting at
>>281384978he should be considered the 4th Great or at least the 3.5
>>281385123>Also let Mantaro's friends at least get a win against job fodder so they have SOMETHINGOh right, I wanted to bitch about this. Nothing meaningful really happened in Ricardo's first match except the crack in his mask. Move that to the prelims as an accidental hit by someone or whatever and give his first match to Jade.
>>281386412>maybe Mantaro wants to learn it as a super cool technique to beat Kevin Mask but Suguru rejects it, since it was a technique shaped by his friendship and Ataruโs selflessness for the sake of the clanโs futureGive him that motivation in the BIS Challenge arc, and have him fail to use the move. Then, when he has his rematch with Kevin and truly respects his opponent as an equal competitor, he gets to finally use it.
>>281388003You could even have Suguru lecture Mantaro with the three tenants of the Kinniku Clan, using your power to fight for others, always seeking the path of thorns, and never letting friendship die. Those could be the lessons in the lantern challenge too, and Suguru says that he canโt teach the Muscle Spark because itโs something to be discovered as an individual.
>>281381236God imagine giving Kinnikuman one more shot after Nisei and getting hit with Perfect Origin
>>281388173Hell even if Mantaro doesn't get the Muscle Spark in the OG series, UTag was a perfect time for Mantaro to get it while fighting Suguru.
